Atouguia da Baleia is a 13th century town, 3 km away from the big fishing port of Peniche. Close to the medieval town of Obidos, and national monuments of Alcobaca, Batalha and Mafra, and one hour away from Lisbon. It is surrounded by big empty beaches, excellent for surfing and water sports. The area is famous for the excellent sea food served in the numerous local restaurants with hardly any tourists.

Interesting towns in the area include Caldas da Rayna, famous for the pottery industry, Odidos with its medieval setting, Alcobaca with one of the most famous monasteries of the Cister Order and one of the bast china factories in Europe.

Atouguia da Baleia is a pleasant non touristic town only 3 km away from fabulous empty beaches and the fishing port of Peniche. Excellent basic shopping at walking distance from the house, including one of the best bakeries in the area.
Complete shopping facilities in Peniche, including the impressive offer of fish and fresh vegetables at the municipal market. Health facilities in the area include a health centre only a few minutes from the house, and a hospital in Peniche.
Excellent surf, with numerous surf camps and schools that not only teach but also rent surf equipment. Three golf courses with 9 and 18 holes, to enjoy a pleasant game away from crowds, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
