Casa Azul is a traditional fisherman's house situated in the heart of Peniche old town and within easy walking distance of all the peninsula's beautiful beaches, the gorgeous coastal paths and the marina. It has been fully modernised to provide spacious and comfortable accommodation. Open the front door to an open plan living room, kitchen and dining room. At the rear of the house is a downstairs toilet and separate laundry room. Outside is a spacious courtyard, partially shaded for alfresco meals and barbeques. Upstairs is the shower room/wc. The large front bedroom has a double bed with ample space for a single bed or cot should you require one. There is also a single bedroom, and at the back is another double bedroom with a small balcony overlooking the courtyard and rooftops, completely private.
The house is ideal for families, for friends sharing, or for one couple as we offer a reduced rate for one-couple-only bookings. Situated in a quiet but central street behind the Church of St Pedro, the shops, cafes, restaurants, bakeries and markets are all within easy walking distance, so older children can explore the town on their own. We've had groups of friends who base their stay around surfing or bodyboarding, also people who love walking, nature and history. There are no noisy clubs but there are several nice bars and beach bars, so it's ideal for anyone looking for an authentic Portuguese experience without an over-the-top tourist atmosphere.
The small beach of Praia do Porto de Areia Sul and the spectacular sweeping beach Praia do Porto de Areia Norte are both easy, level walks away. The gorgeous coastal paths are also close by and will take you around the peninsula, fantastic for discovering the small sandy beaches, and observing the bird life and Atlantic views. The house is around the corner from the fort museum and the marina, great for a pre-dinner walk to the lighthouse before dining in one of the many restaurants serving the delicious local cuisine, most at very affordable prices. There are daily excursions from the marina to the Ilha da Berlenga, a nature reserve island in the Atlantic, with puffins, etc.
Peniche also make a good base for exploring the region. Lisbon, Caldas de Rainha and Obidos can be reached by public transport, so no car necessary.

The Central Portugal region
Peniche is a traditional harbour town situated on a small peninsula fringed with beautiful sandy beaches. There is a beach for everyone - young families, sunbathers, body-boarders and both beginner and experienced surfers. There are also the rugged coastal paths to explore. You will never go hungry in Peniche: the town is full of restaurants and cafés, all serving the meals based on the local produce - wine, olives, cheeses, meat and of course fish. Many restaurants will have a barbeque, the accent is definitely on relaxed dining at reasonable prices.
Except for a brief winter the climate is hot for most of the year. The average temperature in February is 16c/60f, rising to 26c/79f August and September, with the average temperature in October 22c/72f.
Peniche is an old walled city steeped in history. Next to the marina is the fort facing out to sea, which is now a fascinating museum. It is known for it's lace-making and there are still workshops where lace is made.
Walking around it's old cobbled shopping streets is rewarding, as is a daily visit to the municipal market and a number of wonderful bakeries.
Peniche is in the Estramadura (Silver Coast) region north of Lisbon. A frequent coach service connects Lisbon 90 minutes away, or 60 minutes if you are driving. There are castles, monastries and churches dotted throughout this wonderful fertile region. Obidos is a tiny walled city which can be reached by bus from Peniche.

"comfortable, clean and central"
Travelled here with some friends for a long weekend surf trip. The Casa Azul was centrally placed within easy walk of a great number of amazing bars and retaurants. There are surf breaks up and down the coast which we made great use of. Importantly the house was clean and comfortable in a quiet area of the old town of Peniche - we had a gerat time in and out.
