The West Wales / Pembrokeshire / Carmarthenshire region
This particular region of Wales has a lot to offer the discerning tourist. Outstanding scenery and walks around the coastline. A wealth of history, including castles, museums, ancient churches and cathedral and towns. A host of beaches and breath-taking panoramic views. Activity centres, parks, including a large theme park, and plenty of places to take boat trips from, to see the off -shore islands and wild life.
Pendine area
Pendine is a non-commercialised coastal village, which is famous for its 7 mile stretch of sandy beach. It was ideal for World land speed records and in 1924 Malcolm Campbell set a speed record of 146.16mph on these sands. Parry-Thomas tried to beat Campbell's record in 'Babs' but at 180mph, the car rolled over and he was killed. 'Babs' is now housed in the Museum of Speed at Pendine. The village has the usual food store, pubs, gift shops, takeaways and a regular bus service to Carmarthen and Tenby, via the coastal route- very handy if one doesn't want to drink and drive! Dylan Thomas's birth place of Laugharne , with its medieval history, is only a few miles away and offers a number of restaurants and quaint pubs. Dylan Thomas's Boathouse is of course, a must, on the list of places to visit. Pendine is at the 'gateway' to Pembrokeshire's National Park.
How to get there
