Rooks' Retreat - together with our second cottage,'Two Hoots' - is a rural cottage just 3 miles from historic Pembroke and 7 from lively Tenby. Located in a pleasant hamlet on a lane leading to the golden, sandy bay at Freshwater East, just a mile away, it is an ideal touring base for the county's finest beaches, castles and theme parks. Award winning Barafundle bay is also within 5 miles. A tasteful conversion from a former stable, it sleeps a maximum of 6 plus a baby & is toddler friendly. It has the country charm of beamed ceilings & dormer windows to the 3 upstairs bedrooms - 1 twin, 1 single with single bed & cot, and 1 double-bedded with en-suite bathroom (full suite). Downstairs is another double-bedded room - again with full en-suite bathroom - & full-length window/door to front patio. There is also an additional downstairs shower room/W.C. for your convenience. The lounge/diner has French windows to the side patio, modern sofas, 'Freeview' T.V. with DVD player and DVDs plus stereo with CDs and tapes. There is also a selection of novels, maps & local tourist information. The new oak dining suite seats 6 & the modern maple kitchen has every required appliance, including dishwasher. The gravel drive and car park can accommodate 3 cars and the enclosed rear lawn with patio area, BBQ and garden furniture, overlooks the village green - an ideal play area.

The West Wales / Pembrokeshire / Pembrokeshire region
Pembrokeshire is famed for having the only coastal National Park within Britain, with some of the country's finest beaches & countryside. South Pembrokeshire also has many magnificent castles - Pembroke (birthplace of Henry VII), Manorbier & Carew are all within 5 miles. There's plenty to do in this fascinating county - walking, riding, fishing, golf, water sports and boat trips being just a few. The award winning theme parks of Oakwood, Folly Farm & Heatherington are within a few miles, whilst a visit to the Monastery on Caldey Island is a must.
Pembroke / Hodgeston area
A narrow lane winds from Hodgeston to the Pembrokeshire Costal Footpath with spectacular views of Freshwater East Bay and Caldey & Lundy Islands in the distance. The beach is easily accessible & has golden sand and superb walks. Surfing is a favourite sport in the bay and there is an outdoor pursuits centre for the more adventurous. You can catch the coastal cruiser bus to the idyllic Barafundle Bay or Bosherston Lily Ponds which is a great place to fish, or visit the medieval village of Manorbier with its beach and famous castle - just 3 miles away. If golf is your sport, there are 3 courses - the nearest being just 5 miles. Island visits and coastal boat trips are available from Tenby or Saundersfoot.
There are 6 places to eat within a mile, ranging from a traditional 13th Century pub at Jameston to a chic bistro at Lamphey. Many offer value for money meals, takeaways, and welcome children.
How to get there
Fly from Cardiff and follow the M4 to Carmarthen. Take the A477 to Pembroke. At Milton, turn left (signposted Lamphey/Manorbier). Continue to Lamphey and at the junction with the A4139, turn left. Keep to the A road until you reach Hodgeston (1 mile). Rooks' Retreat is the 2nd house on your right.
Sail from Rosslare in Ireland to Pembroke Dock. Follow sign to Pembroke then the A4139 to Tenby. Continue from Lamphey as above.
Take the train to Carmarthen and then Tenby to Pembroke. Disembark at Lamphey, just a mile away.

The downstairs bedroom with en-suite bathroom is ideal for grandma & grandad or for those who have difficulty climbing stairs. The upstairs single room with both single bed and cot allows flexible sleeping arrangements. Both bathrooms & shower room have tiled floors. Attention to detail is evident in the quality furnishings and equipment.
Further details outdoors: The drive & car park is laid to gravel and fenced to either side. The arched, side entrance with wonderful wisteria leads to private patio with BBQ and garden furniture. The large, rear lawn is enclosed & the adjacent village green is ideal for picnics & children can play there in complete safety.

A 25% deposit is required to confirm the booking - the balance being due 8 weeks before the holiday commences. A booking form can be downloaded from our website. All bookings are confirmed in writing.
