The West Wales/Pembrokeshire region

Pembrokeshire enjoys one of the mildest climates in the UK.

This south west corner of Wales has sandy beaches and a beautiful coastline which is why it was designated as a National Park - the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. There is a long distance path that runs along the coastline. Walking a section of this path or taking a boat trip are the best ways to enjoy the natural beauty of the coastline.

The beauty of the area has drawn and inspired many artists so you will find plenty of art and craft in Pembrokeshire.

The sea air is quite a tonic and many people come here just to relax and enjoy the beauty, peace and tranquillity. But for those looking for an active holiday, Pembrokeshire makes a great playground. Sea kayaking, cycling. coasteering, surfing, kite boarding, climbing, walking, fishing, wind surfing, sailing, horse riding and golf are just a few of the activities on offer.

Pembrokeshire also has interesting historical sites ranging from prehistoric times through Norman times to the two World Wars.

And for family fun there are many theme parks and tourist attractions to keep you occupied.

Pembroke

The south Pembrokeshire coast has particularly fine sandy beaches such as Tenby, Manorbier, Freshwater East, Barafundle, Broad Haven, Freshwater West and West Angle Bay. Manorbier is a favourite for rock pooling and Freshwater West is a Mecca for surfers.

Tenby is a picturesque harbour and beach resort. Pembroke, Manorbier and Carew have magnificent Norman castles. Lamphey has a Bishop's Palace and nestled in the cliffs at St Govans is a tiny hermits chapel. Narberth has become a honey pot for art and craft.

Bosherston Lily Ponds and Corby Woodland Garden are two National Trust beauty spots. The Green Bridge of Wales at Stack Rocks is a stunning natural limestone arch. At the right time of the year you can also see seals and puffins near there. Caldey Island is also worth a visit.

Oakwood theme park, Folly farm, Heatherton Activity park, Blue Lagoon water park, Manor House wildlife park and the Dinosaur park are popular with families.

In Freshwater East itself there is a local nature reserve and, of course, the beach and coastal path.

There are plenty of good places to eat and drink in the wider area, many serving locally grown or caught produce, such as the award winning Stackpole Inn.
