About the home

With views of Freshwater East Bay, and set in its own gated grounds, this beach cottage has been tastefully modernised throughout to make for a comfortable and relaxing holiday.

There is a large open plan kitchen/lounge/dining area, at the end of which French doors open out onto an extensive and enclosed raised deck with views of the large mature garden, sea and headland. Steps from the deck lead down to the garden. The parking area can accommodate up to 4 cars (or a boat, if you have one).

It is ideally situated within the Pembrokeshire National Park and if you can drag yourselves away from the peaceful setting, it is a short walk down a path and over the sand dunes ("The Burrows") to Freshwater East beach and 5 minutes to join the stunning Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. There are many beautiful beaches and castles to explore, not to mention theme parks to entertain the kids, watersports, horse riding and golf, all within walking distance or a short drive.

Chequers has undergone a complete renovation which was finished at the end of June 2010. Accordingly it offers all the home comforts including:
- a brand new modern fully fitted kitchen
- a large solid oak refrectory style dining table which looks out of the sunroom onto the deck and garden
- 2 double bedrooms plus one twin, where the twin beds can easily be linked up to become a super king
- ceiling fans in both the lounge and dining areas
- 1 bathroom with showerbath (thermostatic shower) and 1 shower room with a large overhead thermostatic shower. Both have WC, hand basin and heated towel rails
- books, games and DVDs available for your use
- use of a phone with honesty box
- Broadband and Wi-fi are also available
- Travel cot, baby bath, changing mat and bottle steriliser available on request

Chequers offers a large private garden and both patio furniture and charcoal BBQ are provided (charcoal not supplied). The child friendly extensive decking area is completely enclosed with gates on either side - ideal for safely "enclosing" any little ones in the fresh air!

The garden sweeps southwards towards the beach and is lined on both sides with mature trees. These create lovely shady areas to lie on a blanket out of the hot summer sun.

Parking can accommodate up to 4 vehicles (or a boat if you wish to bring one).

The village pub is less than 100 yards away and provides hot meals and real ales.

The West Wales / Pembrokeshire / Pembrokeshire region

Pembrokeshire is an area of outstanding beauty and has something for everyone. Its mild climate also makes it ideal for visitors all year round.

For families, there are numerous unspoilt beaches, historic castles to explore and a number of theme parks. The National Park also run various activities and events for both adults and children, ranging from rockpool safaris, to crab catching, bat walks and more.

This West Wales county is home to Britain's Only Coastal National Park. Its impressive 186 mile long Coastal path passes 58 beaches and 14 harbours, but don’t feel you have to walk it all – the Pembrokeshire walkers bus services cover the entire path and there are a number of smaller circular walks so everyone can sample its stunning scenery and coastal sea life.

For those looking for more adventure, Pembrokeshire offers one of the best outdoor leisure arenas in Europe. There are a host of activities to enjoy, including climbing, kayaking, windsurfing, scuba diving, sailing, surfing and coasteering.

The Pembroke / Freshwater East area

Freshwater East is a sheltered bay in the south west of The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and it is an ideal base from which to explore this stunning county and ensure fun-packed days for the kids, without spending too long in the car. It is also the perfect place to just sit back, relax and enjoy the view!

The historic towns of Tenby and Pembroke, with its magnificent castle, and the castles of Manorbier and Carew are just a short drive away, whilst the nearby National Trust owned Stackpole Estate, home to the famous Bosherston Lily Ponds and the idyllic beaches of Barafundle and Broad Haven South, can be reached by foot along the Coastal Path or via another short drive.

Folly Farm, Silent World Aquarium, The Dinosaur Park and Manor House Wildlife Park are all within a 10 mile radius, whilst various activity centres offer coasteering, kayaking and surfing amongst other activities.

The village pub, The Freshwater Inn, with its panoramic views over the beach, and serving meals, is less than 100 yards away.

“High specification cottage in delightful position” This property is in a delightful position with a lovely garden and views of Freshwater East. It has been refurbished to a very high specification and is stylishly furnished and well equipped. It is very warm and comfortable and all appliances(showers included) are of high quality. There has been great attention to detail to enable one to enjoy a relaxing stay, whatever the weather!

“A true home from home, nestled above the bay” Chequers is a welcoming, well thought out holiday home. Suzanne, the owner, has clearly put a lot of thought and effort into making this a true home from home and it shows. Upon arrival, we found tea, coffee, sugar, milk, juice, cake and wine to welcome us - and after a 4 hour drive, lovely not to have to unpack the car before we had a cuppa! The kitchen was very well equipped, and had more than just one cup and plate for each guest - sounds a little thing but having stayed in many rented holiday homes, it was a real pleasure to be in a kitchen that I could have cooked in! There was plenty of hot water and heating. There were also games, books, DVDs and cards - so we didn't need our bag of games. There was also a comprehensive bundle of leaflets on things to do in the area and we used them to plan our trips. The children loved the garden and thoroughly enjoyed running up and down that each morning - they also enjoyed being able to play on the enclosed deck, when the grass was wet, and we welcomed knowing they were enclosed and safe whilst we had a cuppa inside. The garden would be ideal for any age child, but the decking with gates makes it just that bit safer for those with younger children. Chequers is located just above Freshwater East Bay, and has stunning views of the bay - really nice to sit in the sun room and watch the sun go down, It's location also makes it very accessible for the beach, although those with very young children might find the walk back up the hill hard going! It is also ideally situated for trips to neighbouring beaches and towns. We had a great time, and would not hesitate to return, or recommend this property to others. I wish all holiday home owners were as thoughtful as Suzanne!

“Home from home, superb quality.” We had a fabulous time at Chequers and couldn't have asked for more. Lovely welcoming home, heating on when we arrived, late at night and cold which was very comforting. The owner, Suzanne has been really helpful and attentive, a call to check we were ok and had found everything we needed. Will most certainly go back to enjoy again.

“A lovely Family house in ideal location close to the sea.” We stayed her at the begining of October, 6 adults and one baby, property was warm and cosy and is very well appointed. Ideally situated for walks along the costal path and lounging on the beach plenty of spectacular views near by.

“A really lovely property in a fantastic location” As three couples who holiday together every year, we all agreed that we couldn't fault Chequers, the location, the attention to detail and the friendly communication from Suzanne. It is definitely one of the best holidays we've had together in the fourteen years we've been doing this. The kitchen is well equipped, both bathrooms have very efficient showers with the bonus of a bath in one. The beds are good quality and extremely comfortable, and it was great to find a spare lightweight duvet in the wardrobe so that we didn't have to swelter under a thicker one. Having the Pembrokeshire coastal path on our doorstep and the most beautiful beach just a few minutes away really made our holiday. The pub next door gave us a warm welcome and when we ate there we found the food to be acceptable and a reasonable price. The fact that some of us have already decided to return with our families next year says it all! The only suggestion we would make to Suzanne is to cut some of the trees in garden back so that the lovely view down to the sea can be better enjoyed.

“What a fab cottage!!!!” We have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone thinking of taking a break in Pembrokeshire. Top quality accommodation and a fab location. Great views and lots to do around the area. We will definately be back. Thanks Suzanne

“Briiliant!!!” The property was excellent.. Well furnished to a high standard and lovely sofas to sink into to relax for the evening.. The property has 2 bathrooms both with showers and a bath in the one to soak away your aching body after the wonderful walks nearby and a beach within walking distance. The bedrooms were very clean and tidy with plenty of storage and also spacious. The high decking area with seaview was an excellent place to sit and have our alfresco cream teas.... We had a fantastic time there and would deffo come back.

“Brilliant way to spend New Year!” We visited Chequers for a New year break with friends. Having found the bungalow online we were very fortunate that they had a availability for us and from the word go Suzanne was very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. We arrived on the Friday and stayed until the Monday. When we arrived Suzanne had made the effort to put a Christmas tree up for us and provide a welcome pack at no extra cost. We thought this was a lovely touch. Chequers is beautifully decorated and had everything we needed, although do bring your own towel, Suzanne will remind you and some condiments and cooking oil. We all loved the rooms that we stayed in -beds were very comfortable, as the organisers my other half and I have the sea view bedroom, and what a view it is! Having grown up just up the coast I am used to the spectacular views that South Wales holds but this uninterrupted view of Freshwater East was a beautiful sight to wake up to. As far as tips go... Don't worry about doing your shopping beforehand as there is a Tesco very close by Definitely visit Broadhaven beach and do the circular walk from Stackpole Quay Visit www.pembrokeshirecast.org.uk before you go Ask Suzanne for recommendations Overall we had a wonderful stay and will no doubt be returning in the not so distant future!

“Gorgeous house, gorgeous location” What a stunning view from the rear of this well thought out property. The pictures of the house don't do it justice as it really is super clean and lovely inside with all the conveniences you could need. The open plan layout meant we could all be sociable especially whlst cooking! We travelled with a baby, toddler and 2 teens and was perfect for this combination. The October weather was wet and windy but this didn't stop us going for walks on the beach and visiting nearby places. Heatherton is great for all ages and we visited more than once. There is a quiet pub next door however we used the pub down the road as it had a pool table, amusements, food and catered for our needs.

“if only all holiday rentals were like this” Chequers was immaculately clean, comfortable and extremely well furnished and equipped.It really was like a home from home and there wasn't anything we needed that hadn't been thought of and provided.A very much appreciated welcome pack set the tone for our stay. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to explore Pembrokeshire as an ideal base and cannot fault it in anyway.
