Home description

La Matha is an old stone built converted barn set away from the road amongst vineyards. It has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and very spacious living accommodation. Downstairs consists of a large open plan space containing distinct kitchen, dining and sitting areas. Also on the ground floor is a double bedroom, bedroom with bunkbeds and a family bathroom.

The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, hob, fridge freezer and microwave oven. There is also a washing machine in the utility room. Upstairs there are two bedrooms - one double and one bedroom with three single beds. The triple bedroom has an en-suite shower room with a toilet. The house has UK TV and DVD player, stereo and hairdryer. Linen, towels (including swimming) and cleaning are all provided.

Outside there is a 10m by 5m swimming pool and a covered terrace with a barbecue and outdoor dining table and chairs. There are also sun loungers available by the pool. The garden is a good size for kids to run around in, and is safe and secluded

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region

The property is situated close to the Gironde, Dordogne and Lot et Garonne borders, making it within easy driving distance of several Bastide towns and villages, as well as the medieval towns of Saint Emilion, Sarlat, Eymet and picturesque Bergerac, St Foy La Grande and Duras. Each have lively markets on different days of the week.

The property is in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region and the choice of wine makers offering free wine tasting is enormous. The house is half an hours distance to some the most inspiring wine areas - Cotes de Castillon, St Emilion, Pomerol, Sauternes, Barsac, St Croix Du Mont, Loupiac, Monbazillac.

Restaurants in the vicinity are plentiful and during the summer season many of the villages have evening markets and festivals, varying from jazz and classical open air concerts to vide greniers (bric-a-brac fairs) and son et lumière events.


Pellegrue / Caplong area

The nearest village to the property, Pellegrue, is only 6 kms away and offers a choice of shops: supermarket, boulangerie, bank with cash dispensers, post office, chemist, bar, cafe and tourist information office where bikes can be hired, 2 tennis courts. Sainte Foy la Grande, only 10 kms away, is on the Dordogne river and has several large supermarkets, many good restaurants, and on Saturdays a traditional market (known as one of the best in France).

In addition to the tennis at Pellegrue, in the area there is a magnificent golf course, and you can go canoeing on the Dordogne. There are many places to hire canoes from along the river.

There is a horse riding stable about 5 km from the house.

Ryanair flies to Bergerac from London Stanstead, Luton, Liverpool, East Midlands and Bristol. Flybe flies from Birmingham, Exeter, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, London Gatwick, and Southampton. Bergerac is 30 minutes away by car.

BA flies to Bordeaux from Gatwick, and Easyjet from London Luton and Bristol, as well as from Geneva and Lyon. Bordeaux is 60 minutes away by car.

Most car rental companies operate from both Bordeaux and Bergerac - we suggest you shop around, as deals vary from time to time. Car rental is recommended, due to the relatively remoteness of the house!

Lettings will generally be for a minimum of one week, starting and ending on a Saturday. Other than in July and August, we can be flexible in terms of period (eg weekends) or on changeover day.

Departures before 10.00am and arrivals after 3.30pm.

A holding deposit of 15% is payable on reservation, with the balance to be paid five weeks before your holiday. A security deposit of €350 or £250 will be payable with the final payment, and will be returned after your holiday has finished.
