La Doccia is a beautifully restored and extremely private farmhouse enjoying far reaching views across the Val d'Arno and just 25 km from Florence.
We are set in our own 30 hectares (70 acres) of tranquil woodlands and meadows full of wild flowers 635 metres (2000 feet) above sea level with views to the west towards Florence over vineyards and olive groves.
We are also on the wine trail for Chianti Rufina and Pomino and near the Vallombrosa Monastery and Casentino Nature Reserve while popular destinations such as Florence, Siena and Chianti are all within easy reach.

The Tuscany region
We are situated in the beautiful Val d'Arno region to the east of Florence, just 45 minutes away, and 5km from Pelago. We are close to Vallombrosa monastery and the Chanti Rufina winemaking region. Pontassieve is 20 minutes away and apart from all the services such as banks, supermarkets, restaurants etc runs a frequent train service to Florence.

Pelago area
Pelago is a small town in the Upper Val d'Arno, in the foothills of the Pratomagno mountains just a short distance from Florence well serviced with a number of shops, local restaurants while Florence is a short distance away and you can enjoy the attractions of one of the world's top tourist destinations. Nearer to La Doccia are beautiful small villages, Vallombrosa Monastery and the Chianti and the Rufina wine regions amongst others.
Your hosts can help plan your individual trips around Tuscany. Be these wine tasting, cycling, cooking classes, yoga, walking, napkin folding, olive picking or simply driving around, We can help you fit as much as you want into your visit here and can arrange for on site courses and classes.

Further details indoors: La Doccia, a former Monks' farmhouse that once belonged to Vallombrosa Monastery, has been restored to an extremely high standard whilst leaving the original structures largely unchanged. Many features remain such as stone staircases, a mixture of chestnut and terracotta ceilings and much of the original terracotta and brick flooring. Where it has been necessary to improve certain areas the same handmade or original materials have been used.
There are 9 bedrooms, 7 of which are en suite, and guests can enjoy the 4 reception rooms as well as a number of terraces which offer breathtaking views across the Arno valley towards Florence, not to mention the extensive landscaped gardens.
Every room at La Doccia contains an eclectic mixture of local handcrafted furniture made in the small mountain village of Tosi and our family antiques and furnishings brought here from England.
La Doccia is open all year with double-glazing, external glass doors to all the main wooden doors and full central heating.

For large or extended families, groups of friends or several families together, La Doccia is perfect rented out as a whole. This is on an exclusive basis and at special rates for parties of up to 18 adults with room for additional adults and children.
Further details outdoors: La Doccia is part of the mediaeval settlement of Ristonchi, which takes its name from the Etruscan "Ristona" meaning a crest of a hill.
During the wars of the early 14th century, the small Castello of Ristonchi sheltered Guelfi families defeated in battle with the Ghibellines of Florence.
There is a private 12m by 6m terraced swimming pool and private entrances for a number of bedrooms.

A week means at least 7 consecutive nights. Use of baby cot free of charge. Arrival times between 4pm and 7pm - Departure by 10:30 am on day of departure. Please contact us to arrange late or early arrivals. Swimming pool open from 1st May to 30th September. Please note that we do have a pet - a rather energetic Labrador.
Care and Attention DEPOSIT: - We also ask for a deposit of Euros 500.00 to cover breakages, cleaning or damage to apartments and cottages which are on a self catering, self service basis.
This deposit is returned after inspection of the property. The deposit is payable at the same time as the accommodation is payable as per the reservation details.

Children are very welcome, Smoking is permitted outside the apartment and smokers are very welcome so long as the ash trays are used.
