6 Castlehill Courtyard
About the home
No 6 Castlehill is a light, sunny and spacious home-from-home, furnished comfortably for couples or families. The wood burning stove in the lounge is cosy on cooler days and you can breakfast in the dining kitchen, looking out at the neighbouring 15th Century ruined tower.
The garden, with sun deck and chairs, is enclosed by stone walls and planted with roses, heathers, honeysuckle and fuchsias.
Castlehill nestles in the Manor Valley which runs from the Tweed, with it’s own river up into the Southern Uplands, and the road goes nowhere, so it is a quiet, peaceful setting with lots to explore - Macbeth’s Hill, The Thief Road, St Gordian’s Cross, for example - on foot or by bike (2 provided). Or just sit, relax and watch the swallows fly!
A beautiful drive of 5 to 10 minutes takes you to Peebles for shopping and lots of other activities.

The Scottish Borders region

Hills over 800m, lochs, salmon rivers, stands of native Scots Pine, attractive market towns and frequent historic cultural festivals are some of the features missed by the majority of folk from the south heading for the highlands. Perhaps the Scots would like to keep the secret to themselves!
Day trips can be made to Edinburgh and the coast at North Berwick with it’s Sea Bird Centre and trips to Bass Rock and, a bit farther afield, Alnwick and the Northumberland coast.
The Peebles area
Although one of the significant market towns of the Borders, The Royal Borough of Peebles has retained a distinctly rural feel with views all around of the surrounding hills and forests. It boasts some lovely hotels for coffee or meals out and a community theatre.
The River Tweed provides lovely walks with the chance to see all sorts of wildlife, including the kingfisher! A gentle stroll takes you to the 14th Century Neidpath Castle, which is often open to the public. Nearby are Kailzie Gardens with the Osprey Watch, and Traquair House, the oldest inhabited Scottish castle house.
The Belltane festival in June is a pageant lasting a week celebrated by horseback processions, bands of pipers and brass and carnival floats.
The renowned Glentress mountain biking centre is just west of the town and there is fly fishing in the Tweed for salmon, trout and grayling. Permits can be bought in Peebles and beginners lessons are available complete with tackle hire. Hill walking is available all around (details from the tourist office) and there is pony trekking at the Peebles Hydro Hotel.
Peebles Golf Course on the edge of the town and the Cardrona Golf Course 5 minutes east are challenging Championship Courses in beautiful settings.
Dawyck botanic gardens, situated near Stobo just over the hill from Castlehill, is a wonderful arboretum, especially lovely when the azaleas, rhododendrons or cerulean Echinopsis poppies are flowerng. One of the first Douglas Fir has grown here to a height of nearly 50m from seed collected by David Douglas in 1827.

Guestbook for 6 Castlehill Courtyard
"We have had a super holiday – the cottage was lovely, clean and well equipped. The location was a bonus at the heart of the great outdoors. It was our first time in the Borders, having spent many holidays in the Highlands. Would we return to the Borders? – yep! And to 6 Castlehill? – you bet!!"
"Great house, has everything we need, spacious, clean, maps, loved the wood burning stove – we were roasting every night! We cycled every day, Glentress is great but we also enjoyed the ride to Peebles round the hill. Great place; would definitely like to come back – we loved it."
"The cottage is extremely comfortable and well kitted out --- a very comfortable stay in lovely surroundings. Thank you very much for letting us stay."
