The South/Borders region

The Scottish Borders has an enviable location lying around 1 hours drive from the major cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. The scenery is breathtaking with forests and woodland offering peace and tranquility. If it's a busier schedule filled with adrenaline, you have also chosen the right region.

The River Tweed runs through the Borders and provides some of the best fishing in the World. As well as fishing, you can try mountain biking at the 7stanes or golfing at one of the 21 highly rated golf courses. You'll discover friendly towns and charming villages, while our castles, abbeys, stately homes and museums illustrate the exciting and often bloody history of the area.

Don't miss out on the chance to buy cashmere or tartan - the Borders is famous for its' knitwear.

Peebles / Cardrona area

Peebles was granted its Royal Burgh status in 1152 and is the 3rd largest town in the Borders. It has boasted many famous historical figures including: John Buchan, Mungo Park and The Chambers’ Brothers.

Peebles has a weekly general market every Thursday and a farmers market the 2nd Saturday of the month. It has also been named as the Top Independent Retailing Town in Scotland, due to its array of independently-run and unique shops. The 14th Century Neidpath Castle lies on the banks of the River Tweed, just 1 mile west of Peebles. The Castle is open from May until end September.

Many of Scotland’s kings and queens have frequented Traquair House. Dating back to 1107, Traquair House is the oldest continually inhabited house in Scotland. The 1745 Cottage Restaurant and the Brewery are worth a visit.

Peebles has it's own Jazz Festival in May, Common Riding (Beltane) in June, Arts Festival in August and Highland Show in September.

How to get there

Edinburgh Airport is 49 km away and is served by all major airlines, including Easyjet and Ryanair. The Airport has a selection of car hire companies.

Cardrona Village lies 3 miles south of Peebles on the A72, nestled in the hills and forests of the Tweed Valley and only 40 minutes from Edinburgh. The Village is served by First Bus (No.62) Edinburgh-Melrose service.
