The Scottish Borders region
The Scottish Borders are steeped in history and Neidpath Castle features in much of it. It is a family seat of the Fraser, Hay and Douglas families. John Buchan, author of 'The Thirty Nine Steps' lived in Peebleshire and set many of his novels here. The area is beautiful with rolling hills, and hidden glens with the River Tweed at its centre.
There are the great houses of Traquair and Abbotsford to visit, as well as the famous Dawyck Gardens. Kailzie is nearby with it's Osprey Watch and mini-golf for children. Glentress is a world famous mountain biking centre, just 3 miles away. Peebles has an award winning Chocolatier, excellent restaurants, pubs and shops. It boasts a fascinating local museum and hosts various festivals each year, the Beltane in June; the Wood Festival and Food Festival in October. There is a local market each Thursday and a Farmers Market on the 2nd Saturday of each month. Peebles has the Eastgate Theatre with a busy programme of events, including a 'Cinema Night' and a swimming pool. Stobo Health Spa, 4 miles away, is a luxurious treat where day visits can be booked.
