The Scottish Borders region

South of the Scottish capital Edinburgh lay the Scottish Borders which stretches from the rolling hills and moorland in the west, through gentler valleys to the high agricultural plains of the east, and on to the rocky Berwickshire coastline with its secluded coves and picturesque fishing villages.

Whatever the season, the Scottish Borders is awake and alive with attractions all year round. Discover a land with a turbulent and romantic history, punctuated by imposing castles, elegant abbeys, stately mansions and dramatic ruins. However you like to spend your free time, you'll find something to keep you entertained in the Borders.

You'll find the Scottish Borders is easy to reach from every direction, with major routes from all directions touching its boundaries. Leave behind the motorways and ring roads and in little more than an hour by car from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle and Carlisle you'll discover that driving is a pleasure again. Traffic free roads and quiet country lanes reveal new breathtaking vistas which change with the seasons, the weather and the light.

Peebles

'Peebles for Pleasure' is what the locals say and it's easy to see why! Peebles offers plenty of ways to enjoy the great outdoors with a variety of leisure activities. Golf, fishing, mountain biking and walking are popular pursuits, with the Forests of Tweeddale and the challenging Southern Upland Way easily accessible. For mountainbikers of all levels, Glentress Forest offers the first courses in Scotland designed by enthusiasts using a colour-graded scheme like ski runs.

Peebles' spacious High Street offers interesting boutiques and welcoming tearooms for a spot of shopping, then round off the day with a visit to Peebles Eastgate Theatre; opened in 2004 with a varied year-round selection of theatre, music and art exhibitions.

Peebles offers a wide range of high quality restaurants and cafes too: from Chinese to Indian, from Italian to local Scottish cuisine you will be spoiled for choice.

Nearby, Innerleithen is home to Traquair, Scotland's oldest continually inhabited house and is surrounded by the scenic hills and forest of the Tweed Valley, also St. Ronan's Well Interpretative Centre depicts the era of the last century when the town was famed as a spa. Robert Smail's Printing Works give a fascinating insight into the printing processes of the past.

The neighbouring village of Broughton has a well-known gallery, as well as the John Buchan Centre, chronicling the famous writer, soldier and politician's life. Keep an eye open, too, for Neidpath Castle atop its lofty vantage point over the River Tweed on the edge of Peebles.

Gardening fans are well placed to enjoy a visit to Dawyck, one of the National Botanic Gardens of Scotland, at Stobo, or Kailzie Gardens with its formal walled garden, stocked trout pond and 18-hole putting green.

"Superb space plenty of room for 6, great location"

Used the apartment whilst visiting family in Peebles which is a gorgeous small town, I could not say anything negative about the apartment or the break. Lockable space to store bikes if visiting Glentress , the new Go Ape looks awesome! The apartment is clean very spacious and comfortable get the log fire lit and enjoy.
This will be our first point of contact when visiting Peebles again.
One cautionary note the steps to the apartment are quite steep if you have any mobility issues.

"Lovely apartment, great communication, ideal accomodation, great stay!"

I stayed in the apartment with 3 friends for 2 nights as we were visiting Go Ape near Peebles. The apartment was ideally situated, within walking distance to the main street in Peebles. The property was equipped with everything we needed and we were very comfortable. The owner(s) were very helpful and flexible allowing us to have a later check-out time.

"A lovely home from home"

I stayed in Peebles Apartment with a group of friends at the end of October and we all loved the place. As a group of Scout leaders we go away once a year to make plans for our Unit in the year ahead and while we had previously stayed at various hostels throughout the country, we found this a much preferable alternative. £130 for 5 of us for the weekend was ideal and the Apartment did not disappoint. The instructions and directions provided by Lyn and Luca were very helpful and enabled us to find the Apartment with no problems. The Apartment was lovely and we all felt very much at home. Location was ideal too, being less that 5 minutes walk from the High Street. A particular highlight was the wood burning stove which (along with the central heating), kept us nice and toasty over a chilly weekend. All crockery, cutlery, glasses, linen and towels provided too. All in all we had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and hope to return to the Apartment very soon.

"Bright, spacious apartment, close to amenities"

We stayed for two nights and found the apartment to be in a really good location, it is about a maximum of 5 minutes walk from the Main Street and there was a nice cheerful welcome from Rose on arrival who showed us around. We had been to Peebles a few times so knew our way around but I'm sure Rose could have assisted with any advice, directions etc. The flat itself has a large, bright living room, decent sized kitchen and bathroom on one floor and two bedrooms in a loft conversion upstairs, again both bedrooms are a decent size with enough storage space. The flat is warm and clean and would be perfectly comfortable for a longer stay. It was quiet at night and parking wasn't an issue on the street. There are a number of steps up to the flat which are a bit steep if there was mobility problems however there is a picture on the home page which I'm sure people could assess for themselves if it were to be an issue. I would recommend this flat to people who like to be close to all the amenities and like to have their own space and freedom to come and go.

"Ideal"

Stayed in this flat for a weekend whilst attending a family wedding in Peebles. The flat is centrally localated and close to all amenities that Peebles has to offer. The flat was clean and perfect for what we were looking for. Would stay again and recommend to family and friends. Thanks

"Met all our needs exactly"

It was a home from home, and very central, Peebles has lots to offer and the flat was handy for shops, cafes etc. Luca kept in touch with us and was very helpful. Our security deposit was returned prompt as well, which was great.

"No Frills"

The location of this apartment was perfect but the fixtures & fittings were poor. We were a party of 4 (but this property will cater for 6) and there was seating for only 3 people in the lounge except for a second sofa which looked like something from the 1970's, it was dirty and very worn and something we did not want to use. The lounge carpet was also in need of repair. The second bedroom was adequate but had no hanging space, drawers or mirror. The apartment would probably suit a group of students but it is not somewhere I would visit again or recommend.

Thank you for your comments - we always welcome all suggestions to make the stay at Peebles Apartment more pleasant. We are currently looking at the seating options in the lounge to match the sleeping capacity of the apartment. Please note that the property does not supply wifi access.

"Great place to stay!"

Lovely apartment, well eequiped and good location. Shower was fantastic.

Thanks for your kind comments Linda, truly appreciated.
You will be delighted to know that we are planning to revamp the lounge furniture pretty soon and that the green sofa will be replaced with something more adequate.
