The Ionian Islands region
Paxos, with it's translucent waters and their astonishingly vivid colours, the picturesque harbours and villages, the tranquil bays and silent olive groves, have earned the island of Paxos a place in the travel magazines as one of the Top Twenty Great Escapes! We can help you learn more about Paxos before you visit, how to get there and prepare you to enjoy a truly magical holiday in Greece. Find out about Gaios, the capital, Loggos and Lakka. Paxos is one of the most revisited Greek islands. Let us show you why.
Paxos area
Gaios is the 'capital' of Paxos, the largest of the three main settlements and the only one that can be called a town, albeit a very small one. Its Venetian and British heritage is visible in the colourful buildings that line the long harbour-front. Gaios now has two harbours - the newer one is a short walk or drive from the centre, and serves as the port of call for ferries, excursion and cruise boats. It is also the setting for the often spectacular arrivals and departures of the Corfu-Paxos seaplane service.
The older harbour, sheltered from the open sea by two small islands, is a never-ending source of entertainment in summer, with its plethora of cosmopolitan yachts. Gaios continues its daily business regardless of its exotic visitors, and it is this contrast that makes it so entertaining to spend an hour or more at one of the cafes in the main square alongside the quay. An intriguing variety of eating establishments, chic boutiques and old-fashioned stores make Gaios quite fascinating.
How to get there
With no airport on Paxos, most visitors fly to the nearby island of Corfu and then transfer by hydrofoil, sea taxi or seaplane. It is an exciting start to your holiday! Charter flights to Corfu operate from most major European airports from May to October.
Car Hire or Transfer We can arrange a hire car to meet you at the port of Gaios or a taxi transfer
Walking on Paxos Paxos could easily be described as a giant olive grove! Shaded walks under the trees and coastal tracks, are a delight. The Agni Travel walking map will help you make the most of your holiday: Paxos Map
Boat Hire Renting a motor boat will give a whole new perspective to your view of Corfu. You won't believe how many quiet bays and coves you will find as you motor along the coast. You could even have a beach all to yourself for the day to sunbathe, picnic and swim - imagining it as your own piece of Paradise.
