The Sardinia region

The most beautiful Italian island, it is by many considered the most enchanting and unspoilt Island of the Mediterranean. Sardinia is hot and dry in summer, with particularly pleasant springs and autumns, and mild winters.

Sardinia is renowned for its sea, its nature and its archaeology. Our house ideal location offers superb access to splendid beaches, mountains and lakes & inland attractions.

Sardinia's colours, fragrances and traditions attract tourists from all over the world, keen to discover the numerous treasures of this charming island. Yet Sardinia's local policies have kept the island beautifully unspoilt, especially the Western area, which has thus been proving throughout years to make it the ideal holiday destination for travel enthusiasts and families.

We must stress that the town lucky central location near the Carlo Felice Road makes all those beauties incredibly easily reachable by car. Sardinia has such a rich history, being the oldest land in Italy; the whole territory is dominated by the presence of numerous Nuraghi, ancient homes of the Nuragic Civilization.

The Sardinian countryside abounds in traces of other cultures which produced beautiful Roman Amphitheatres, Phoenician-Punic towns, and the Traiani forum. A lot has been written about the difference between the types of British tourists that Italy and Spain attract. We feel it is fair to say that in that respect, Sardinia represents the best of Italy, where you can combine a relaxing stay with the beauties of its nature and beaches, with the sophistication of its culture.

The Island boasts a rich patrimony of extraordinary popular traditions and unique folklore, as well as a rich calendar of events held all over the island through out the year. The festivals represent a unique opportunity to feel part of this fascinating island and enjoy poetry recitals, singing, dancing and listening to the sound of original musical instruments.

The whole of Sardinia boasts an exceptionally fine and varied cuisine and each region is characterised by its local specialities, prepared according to ancient traditions with the very freshest local ingredients. Its wines, noted for their fragrance, strength and smoothness are considered among the best in the world. The fragrances and the colours blend together to reflect the unspoilt nature of this land and its people.

Paulilatino Oristano area

Your village is called Paulilatino. The area is called Oristanese. The Oristanese has been awarded with the prize
"best holiday destination for travel enthusiastasts" by Il Sardegna publication in 2007.The area was described as the most unspoilt of the island and as the best location to reach all Sardinian most loved attractions within 30 minutes drive.

If your focus are the beaches and a touristic area which offers night life entertainment, etc we can honestly suggest to spend you Sardinian stay in Alghero or Olbia. If your focus are unspoilt beaches, the mountains, the lagoons, the art, the history, a friendly town who appreciates foreign visitors then you may surely want to come to Paulilatino in the Oristanese (Western Sardinia).

Our guests have always been enthusiastic about the cultural experience they made in Paulilatino through out its festivals, its people, its restaurants, its shops and attractions. We are proud to stress that Paulilatino central location makes it

-just 25 mins drive from a number of beautiful UNSPOILT BEACHES all different from one another,
-4 minutes drive from the NURAGIC ANCIENT BEAUTIES of Santa Cristina
-7 minutes from the beautiful MOUNTAIN WALKS of San Leonardo
-12 minutes from the gorgeous pink flamingos LAKE of Cabras

...and yet only 72 kms from the nearest airport. You will not find a more centrally located spot than this in Sardinia...
Paulilatino is an important agricultural centre (surface: 103,80 square km, 2700 inhabitants). 280 meters high on the Abbasanta plane. Crossed over by the S.S. Carlo Felice which keeps Paulilatino 25 minutes away from the beach side and all the other natural and artistic beauties described in the Sardinia paragraph above.

It’s characterised by its small dark houses made of basalt stone, in which live the agricultural and sheep- grazing workers. Numerous traces of the Gothic- Catalan tradition persists (18th cent.onwards). The wide use of some decorative patterns like small flames and rosettes, till the 19th century, proves the persisting of such a taste, preferred to the new trends. Worthy visiting are the Gothic- Aragon style parish of San Teodoro and the church of Madonna d’ Itria with an 18th century facade. Be sure to visit the 18th century Atzori Palace, accommodating the Ethnographic archaeological Museum.

Close by are the most interesting archaeological remains of the island: the impressive Lugherras nuraghe, which has a central tower and a courtyard guarded by a small tower with a further four surrounding towers. Punic and Roman findings have been discovered in the vicinity, and at around 2 kms away are situated the Atzara and Zroccu nuraghi and the tombs of Giants of Goronna.

Guestbook for Casa Angela [3 bedrooms House]

"We really enjoyed the stay here in Paulilatino especially as it isn't a tourist area and we could experience the real culture of life here" [ Christina Yarwood & daughter July 05]

"The house was clean and homely, the beaches are wonderful and many to choose from. Is Arutas and St. Giovanni our favourite" [ Wiseman Family 13-27 July 05 ]

"We loved Paulilatino, the country nearby, the delicatessen next door and the festival. We enjoyed the colourful
parade with the horses galloping around the church" [Alison Myers and husband- 1-15 May 2008]

"Your house keeper Maria was extremely helpful and once we asked her to cook some delicious Sardinian dishes for us as well! The neighbours were also very nice to us, we made an enjoyable trip to the mountains with them one day and also to the festival" [ Steven Walker & family - August 2006]

"The cultural experience was amazing. They don't get to see many British people over there. We went to the local butcher at 5 to 1pm once. After serving us he said: "It's time to close the shop now, ti offro un caffe'" and off we went to the coffee Bar next door where he treated us with espresso for the whole family while asking about London and explaining what's beautiful in Sardinia in the most natural way..."
[ Mark Hutchings & family- 28 July/9 Aug 2007]

"The location of the house is amazing, it's a lovely quiet country town, but it's also next to the biggest road in the island which takes you the most beautiful spots in Sardinia in no time- We also enjoyed catching old fashioned steam trains to the four corners of the island from the local station and the weather in November was beautiful"
[ Alan Hawley and girlfriend- November 2004 ]
