The Sicily region
Striking landscapes and colorful history give Sicily its stunning features, being it one of the pearls of the Mediterranean Sea.
Different layers of civilization can be identified in all the unique cities and small villages. It is not that uncommon to see Greek, Arab, Norman, and Baroque influences in the same site.
Sicilian shores are washed by three different seas: Ionian Sea, Tyrrhenian Sea, and the Mediterranean. The largest Mediterranean island of Sicily is home to heavenly beaches, majestic mountains, and Europe’s largest natural wonder, Mt. Etna.
The main island is surrounded by a number of smaller picturesque islands, including the Aeolian islands to the west and the Pelagie islands to the south.
Sicily’s coasts are gold with orange and lemon orchards, vineyards, olive groves, almond orchards, and endless wheat fields.
The weather is perfect for holidays all year round, very warm in summer, and pleasently cool in winter.
You can enjoy delicious typical cuisine as well as experience great historical sites, like the artistic village of Noto, the Greek ruins of Syracuse and Tindari, the amazing views and busy street shops of Taormina, the natural reserves and parks of Nebrodi and Madonie. And, of course, the unspoiled sea.
The Patti / Patti Marina area
Patti was originally founded in the VIII century A.D. From the town's historical centre you can enjoy the fabulous view of the Gulf that lies beneath. Also a must is to admire the ruins of an old roman Villa dating back to the 3rd century A.D. The Cathedral contains the tomb of the famous countess Adelasia dei Palermitani, a very influential woman in the old XII century Sicily , mother of King Ruggero d'Altavilla and grandmother of Federico II "lo stupor mundi".
Patti is among the most famous locations on the island of Sicily known for ceramics production; evidence of this old artistic tradition can be found inside Villa Pisani, in Marina di Patti, which houses the Old Ceramics of Patti Museum. Near Patti, on the mountain top of Tindari, at 300mt of height, lies the sanctuary with the statue of the Black Madonna. Here, you can also visit the ruins of an old urbs romana (probably destroyed by a climatic disaster) and the remaining Greek amphitheatre dated back to the III century B.C.
Patti Marina is a small fishermen settlement, with 3Km long beaches, dotted with many restaurants, bars and night-clubs on the seafront. You can taste the delicious granita (fruit-flavoured crushed ice drink) and arancini (rice-balls), the typical hand-made Italian ice-cream and fresh seafood everyday. Besides enjoying a relaxing day at the beach, it is very common to take part in evening events, especially during the high season, such as bonfires and music gigs.
When tired of the quiet life and of sunbathing, you can always decide for a boat trip to the nearby islands, confortably departing from the harbour, or rent a private motorboat and reach the isolated beaches and caves of Mongiove.
If you're looking for adventure, you can also choose to practice water sports, tourist fishing or go for a hike in the nearby hills and mountains. If you want to get to know the local culture, you can experience the many folkloristic festivals such as the 'Santo che balla' or the Madonna boat procession at the Marina in September.

The apartment was clean, bright and comfortable, with views over the sea. The people who run the it were very helpful and reliable. The pool was good, and the beach was an easy walk. The beach and sea at Patti are great. Get a map if you are going to stay here as Patti (old town) is not easy to find your way around ! |
