The East Thailand / Chon Buri Province region
Long before Pattaya became a famous destination – Jomtien Beach had already carved a niche of its own, at least among the local beachgoers who adored it for its pearly white sands and long straight beach.
Albeit a little late, there’s a renewed tourist interest in Jomtien from around the World. On an ordinary day, the resort looks like a busy carnival ground with colourful umbrellas dotting the whole stretch of the beach and sun worshippers in all kinds of swimwear-spicing up the scene. An interesting foreground to the huge palms, flood lit at night overhead with the Gulfs gentle breezes whispering in your ears.
Jomtien was an old fishing village, a great favourite picnic destination among the Bangkok residents evidence of which can be seen on any Thai public holiday!
Not so much of a water sport centre then, this distinction came much later.
Today, Jomtien is a much more popular destination, the six-kilometres of largely straight beach, located just around the headland from Pattaya is popular with many water sports enthusiasts. It is also quieter and more relaxing than Pattaya Beach, shop’s, restaurants and the occasional bar are available along the road that runs parallel with the beach.
Thailand activities
Windsurfing is the beach’s most popular water sport particularly October through to June with ideal water and wind conditions.
Other sports such as skydiving, kite boarding, parasailing, water-skiing, jet skies and banana boat rides are also available.
There is little in the way of shopping or beer bars compared to Pattaya at Jomtien, which is essentially a residential area, with beachside hotels, condominiums and private rental Villas and Bungalows.
Jomtien is also the home to Pattaya Park, an entertainment complex with a water park, roller coaster, monorail and children’s activities. The 56-story Pattaya Park tower is a landmark that can be seen from virtually anywhere in the city.
Climate
Tropical and warm all year round, monsoon winds are sometimes accompanied by the rains. It can be very hot March to June, July to September ranging from 32 to 38 degrees, cooler and very comfortable from November through to February.
Transport and services
Bangkok is a mere two hour drive and one and a half hours from the new Suvarnabhumi Airport along the Sukhumvit Highway via Bangna, Bangpakong, Chonburi and Sri Racha.
Getting around Jomtien and Pattaya (just a ten minute drive from Jomtien) is most convenient by mini-bus, motor cycle, baht taxi or by car, however when traveling by car to Pattaya parking is limited, underground car parks can be found with entrances on first and second road at Mikes Mall and the Royal Plaza.
Boat trips to the nearby Islands can be found along the beach both at Jomtien and Pattaya.
Accommodation
In the area accommodation can be found to suit all budgets, facilities range from opulent beachside hotels, luxury holiday homes at Thailand Holiday Homes to simple guest houses.
Budget rooms from around 500 baht a night up to five star hotels at 20,000 baht plus.
The People
Jomtien and Pattaya has many expatriate residents and is an expanding International tourist resort, hence you will find many of the vendors providing services speak English with signboards in English, German and occasionally in Russian.
But where ever you go you will be welcomed by a wide Thai smile for sure.
The Pattaya / Jomtien Beach area
Thai restaurants, nightclubs and massage
International and Thai restaurants, humble street stalls, nightclubs, discotheques, beer and go-go bars are plentiful. Thai body and foot massage is a relaxing option to the hectic lifestyle from around 250 baht an hour it's not to be missed. Shopping Malls like Mikes Mall and The Royal Plaza along the beach road offer an amazing array of products from ice cream to designer clothing and bags at very sensible prices, open until 11pm as well as live markets giving you plentiful opportunity to empty your credit card accounts. First second and third roads are filled with shops and carts selling their wares of every description and amazing prices - be prepared to barter, its custom, light hearted and fun except for the fixed price shops of course.
Had enough shopping then take a stroll along the floodlit beaches of Pattaya or Jomtien and cool those feet off in the warm sea or take a cool shower and get ready for the night ahead.
Thailand evening and night activities
The evenings activities start at around 8pm, the heats turned up around 10pm, restaurants and bars are open earlier and Pattaya and Jomtien go on until dawn. The centre of activity in Pattaya is undoubtedly "Walking Street" just a ten minute ride from Jomtien by baht bus or taxi, everyone who is in the area will visit the famous Walking Street for a trip or two - some hardly ever leave! Walking Street is a neon extravaganza with bars and restaurants, the seafood restaurants perched on stilts out into the bay. After 6.30pm Walking Street is pedestrianised but as the night goes on its very busy.
Thai boxing
Thai boxing can be seen most nights with exhibition matches at many venues often advertised on flyers and posters - keen boxing fans keep your eyes open or visit your local travel agent. Street life is part of Thailand's culture and you will be amazed by the amount of food stalls on the surrounding small Sois (small streets). Souvenir sellers and market traders set up in every available space along with street artists and the occasional performer. The go go bars are unavoidable spilling out onto the lanes of the beach road, a lively atmosphere for sure from six to sixty you'll love it there are enough Thai smiles to go round for everyone!
Pattaya entertainment
Pattaya provides more live entertainment than you could ever visit in a single trip, outside Walking Street you will find Hollywood disco on South Pattaya Road, lady boy shows (a must) at Tiffany's and Alcazar, entertaining and unbelievably brilliant.
Pattayaland is a place to go for the gays with many western eateries in the area just a few hundred metres from Walking Street. The mall at the southern end of beach road includes, curiously, a Ripley's Believe it or Not, an entertainment centre with roller-coaster simulator, cinema all of which are open till late.
Jomtien has many bars, restaurants and go go bars even English fish and chips so there is no need to visit Pattaya centre as many facilities are available locally, however, a visit to Jomtien/Pattaya without a trip to walking street would be a hugely missed experience.

Paul at Thailand Holiday Homes made my enquiry easy and assisting with organizing 3 villas in close quarters to each other for a party of 16 in Viewpoint Village Jomtien. Everything prior to arriving was very smooth and made easy. He advised us of one original villa becoming unavailable and promptly organized a new one for us in the same location. Transfers were also organized through Paul which pleasant for a group of 16 tired travellers. On arrival, Tuk showed us all 3 properties, and was very thorough in providing contact details if we needed assistance with anything, left business cards for taxi drivers to find our location easily (this came handy countless times in our 4 night stay), as well as advising us of policies and checking electricity meters. She also helped organize scooters which of course are always a convenient way of getting around. All three residence was comfortable and after staying in hotels we felt at home very easily and quickly. Everything was in working order and the pools were a lazy way of having a morning or evening dip. Convenience store and local restaurants location nearby, Viewpoint is a short distance from Jomtien beach, and a brief drive to Pattaya Walking Street. After a day, we were glad to be distant from Walking Street as our surroundings in Viewpoint were peaceful and convenient in its own way. Thanks to Thailand Holiday Homes for making our stay pleasant and would definitely consider another stay with Paul and his crew, hopefully for a longer period next time. |

"A must stay location"
Thank you Paul and Nom and all the staff at Viewpoint Village, for a great holiday. This Villa was great, as were all the others I have stayed in.
The Villa was spacious and had everything there to make the stay very comfortable. The service was 5 star. The pool was great and a lot of time was spent relaxing in and around it. Again, thanks to all for a most enjoyable stay and I would recommend this Villa or any other in the Village to anyone looking for a great place to stay. Will see you all again.

"Golf, gags and girls"
We had a great time Paul and we sat with Tuc and gave her a list of helpful hints to improve the over all experinece on stay with the World famous Thailand Villas. The one thing we missed was that we got bitten by bugs and we all had bites that even got slightly effected. More than once I thought I had something else in bed with me other than the obvios which I'm sure Paul crossed your mind when I made that comment. Suggest that the house maids strip beds and or spray on daily basis.
But we'll be back next year bigger and better with a possible 12 people.

"Great Stay"
Our stay was great and the Villa was superb. An excellent location and even the mosqitoes behaved this year!
Everything went flawless even the pick up and drop off to and from the airport.
Our only complaint was the yapping dog from a few villas up, this started at 6-30am each morning.

hi, im just writing to say that my brother and i stayed here in november 2009, we had a great time, very relaxing having your own villa, we chilled at the pool everyday, everything was available to us in the villa, it was cleaned everyday too, the villa is great for a family too, we are going to bring our family over next year, the kids will love it, tesco lotus is just around the corner too if you want to get shopping etc, paul and nom are always helpful too, and the manager, we had no problems when we were there, we would just like to thank everyone in thailandholidayhomes for making our holiday great, even the security lads on the gates were lovely people, thanks to all of ye, see ye next year,happy xmas and happy 2010

"A very comfotable villa"
there were 10 of us staying in Thailand villa 138/117 - Baan-DuanChai. it was a very comfortable villa and the price and service was excellent. paul and the team did a wonderful job of meetimg any need we had. the vehicle supplied was excellent and very necessary to get around when you want. for 10 people the accomodatioon is the best you could get it is very economical.
paul you and the team did a wonderful job for us. we had another 7 people in another villa and we always look back on that trip as being very enjoyable ans we will use Thailand Holiday Homes in Pattaya again or one of their other locations.
