The Phuket region

Phuket lies in the South Western part of Thailand and is the largest island in Thailand. It is about 90 minutes flight from Bangkok and Malaysia and Singapore. It has a fusion of Buddhist and Muslim religions, and all the food, cultural influences and traditions associated with both.

There is an annual Sonkran Festival, marking the start of the Thai New Year in Mid April, and Phuket Gay Pride happening annually throughout the last week of April.

Patong

Phuket is a tropical Island, so only very cool clothing is necessary. There is no need to book sightseeing tours or anything else in advance. You'd be much better off going directly to a booking agent and work out a package for whatever you want to see. Activities include visiting temples, monuments and viewpoints. But then there are also tree top zip-lines, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving elephant trekking, a huge water theme park and even helicopter flips. More leisurely but equally nice things to so would be a visit to the national park with cool water falls and a gibbon sanctuary. A quick road or boat trip gets you to the mangroves and James Bond Island. Even day trips to Phi Phi Island featuring Maya Bay where the film "The Beach" was made can be organised.

Then there is of course the wonderful beaches hugging Phuket from all sides, eating places, restaurants and bars, shopping galore and a bustling nightlife should you want to visit the busier areas. There truly is something for every one's taste and budget. Just get here and enjoy!

"Calm oasis in Patong!"

We landed in Patong apprehensively after enjoying 3 days of quiet beaches in Nai Harn. But the Max's place proved to be a great find. We were in the heart of patong yet shielded from the hustle bustle. The only downside was the climb to the hill :-( You cant have it all, can you?

Johan, the host, was very helpful with suggestions. He is a great cook too. Do not miss the breakfast!

"Great place in Phuket"

Johan and Max were wonderful hosts. They arranged a reliable pick-up from the airport, took us to a scooter rental place and recommended beaches, elephant farms and restaurants to us.
Their house is very nice as well. The room is spacious and clean and the breakfast, they serve, is fresh and delicious. Once you have been to the rooftop terrace, you're tempted to spend every night there because you have such great views over the Patong bay.
I would definitely stay there again and recommend this place to everyone.
