The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region
From heather-clad moors and bold limestone scars, to lively market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer? Surely, nowhere as much as in the Yorkshire Dales? Both a National Park and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the region’s stunning scenery includes rolling hay meadows, striking limestone formations, grand heather-laden moors and picture-postcard perfect villages. A paradise for walkers, the Yorkshire Dales attract enthusiasts from far and wide as the long distance Pennine Way and Coast-to-Coast routes pass through the area.
Cycling through the Dales is also popular – keen cyclists will enjoy the varied scenery and occasional ‘hilly’ sections of the 130 miles of Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, as it winds its way through Swaledale, Wensleydale and Coverdale. All of this, as well as exploring the imposing rock formations, echoing caves and potholes, will satisfy the most adventurous spirit, whilst Semer Water, the largest natural lake in Yorkshire, will keep any water-sport enthusiast happy. If you’re looking for more relaxing pursuits, there’s much more to see than magnificent scenery. Stone-built villages nestling in valley bottoms, picturesque towns with vibrant craft centres and markets, imposing castles, stunning gardens and fine architecture are all part of the Dales’ appeal.
Grassington, Wharfedale’s main town, boasts beautiful cobbled streets and quaint shops that take the visitor on a journey back in time, whilst the lively town of Hawes is home to the award winning Dales Countryside Museum, a fascinating range of shops and craft galleries and a sample or two of the famous ‘Wensleydale’ cheese at the Creamery is a treat not to be missed!
The Pateley Bridge area
The old lead mining town of Pateley Bridge is in Nidderdale and although not technically in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the area has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The main street has a wide range of shops and there are charming little alleyways just waiting to be explored. The town is noted for its prize-winning floral displays and is always a delight to wander through. Pateley Bridge has fabulous craft workshops and the Nidderdale Museum gives visitors a glimpse into past life. A plaque in the high street marks the start and finish of the Nidderdale Way, a 53-mile round walk that takes in the stunning landscapes of this beautiful area. With plenty of attractions and fantastic walking opportunities, this area is marvellous for a holiday.

Guestbook for 1252 - Ashfold Chalet
Wonderful location with plenty of walks from the doorstep. Very helpful owners, at the end of the phone when needed.

,Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ashfold Chalet. Location was perfect for us, very quiet and serene. Chalet was larger than appeared on pictures. Very clean and well equipped. Lovely background noise of river and sheep. Bliss! Owner was very helpful but not intrusive. Pately Bridge is a beautiful little town and the walks along the River Nidd are excellent. Will definitely go again.

,Spacious in all respects, a lovely location. My wife fell in love with the chalet and wants to return some time in the future. Plenty of good walks locally.

,We enjoyed the peaceful location and the beauty of the surrounding area. It was a very relaxing time 'away from it all'. The 1.5 mile walk into the village was along a very pretty riverside.
