The Umbria region
Castello Medievale History:
The original castle tower was built at the beginning of the 14th century. In the 15th century under the Borgia family, the tower was transformed into a fortified post for the Italian army. At that time, the castle was close to the border of the Papal state and the site of many wars.
With the death of the last Borgia family member in 1745 and the changes in war strategy, the castle was transformed into a more comfortable residential palace. However, from the 1800's it was closed for approximately one century and only at the beginning of the last century were its doors once again re-opened.
In 1911 it was acquired by the Palombaro family who also bought several properties and much land around the lake. Unfortunately, from 1941 to 1944 the castle was a site of war once again and transformed into a head quarters for the German army and a point of resistance against the English army.
At the end of the war, once again restored, the residence was used as a summer holiday residence for the Palombaro family. In 1995 the family decided that more people should be able to use this amazing property and they opened the doors to the public and began to rent it out.
