The mangnificent Chateau Les Forge is set in lovely countryside of the Deux Sevres, which is a great base for exploring this untouched area of France. 1.20 mins La Rochelle, 25mins to the historic town of Parthenay with its weekly market & summer festivals. The charming town of Niort with daily markets is 30mins away. Poitiers town centre is also 30mins drive both well worth a visit.
The area is fabulous for bike riding/walks, it's beautiful lakes and just discovering unspoilt village restaurants and traditional bars for lunch.
Within one hours drive you have three golf courses, or just try and master the course at Les Forges.
Parthenay have just opened a super new indoor swimming pool complex, great for relaxing or swimming....children wil love it.

Let this place full of culture and history surprise you with festivals such as the lyrique opera of Sanxay taking place in its Gallo Roman site,the music chamber at Lavausseau and the cultural festivals of Parthenay.
Discover Saint Loup Sur Thouet, a charming and picturesque village with its castle and gardens on the river Thouet. Every year Menigoute organizes an internatinal ornithological film festival and other local villages such as Vasles, nicknamed `Mouton-village` is renowened for its large sheep market and its educational and touristic park devoted to sheep.Nearby can be found the medieval cities of Niort and Parthenay situated on the main pilgrimage route to Santiago De Compostela.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region

~This department is one of great variety, with the magnificent Chateau D'Orion in the north and the forest of Chize in the south. The wetlands of the Marais Poitevin on the border with Charente-Maritime offers a maze of waterways, the best way to discover these is by gondola, there's even a floating market in the summer.
The region enjoys the second most sunshine days of anywhere in France. The towns of Niort, Poitiers, La Rochelle, Parthenay are stacked with history, markets and festivals throughout the year not to mention great restaurants & entertainment.
1.30Mins traffic free drive from the Chateau and you can be on the beach or even visit a Grand Chateau on the Loire.
The T.V.G train from Poitiers to Paris takes 1.30mins Great for a day trip.

Parthenay area

Futuroscope on the edge of Poitiers (30mins) A very large state of the art theme park superb for all ages.There is the Puy du Fou Medieval/Roman theme park 1.30mins away where you rediscover worlds and eras you thought had long disappeared, again, great for all ages. There is the Mouton Village (5-Mins) sheep park and don't fprget Cognac & the Loire Valley are 1.30mins drive away.
Pescalis' super lake fishing complex for all standards of anglers 45mins drive.
Deux-Sevres is named after two rivers, the departement is known as the "land of festival" there is always a warm welcome from locals and be prepared for many an invitation for aperitifs.

How to get there

The Apartment in the Chateu is easily accessed by car & enjoys the use of a private car-park for guest only.
T.G.V (fast train is 30mins away at Poitiers, traviling time to Paris 1.30mins). www.ryainair.com -- www.easyjet.com fly to; La Rochelle-Tours-Nantes with Poitiers being the closest airport at 25min drive to the Chateau, La Rochelle-Tours 1.30mins drive to the Chateau.

From the main airports car hire is very easy , Nantes or Bordeaux airport is only a 2 hours drive away.

The Golf Course

Challenging and relaxing – this is the best way to describe the attractive 27 – hole golf course on 110 hectares of unspoilt countryside. It is challenging because of its many undulations, ponds, and bunkers and fabulous but unpredictable greens.
It is relaxing because the course offers both peace and space that you share with birds of prey, deer and other small game.
The 3 courses all start and finish at the clubhouse. They have different degrees pf difficulty, which will suit players


Restaurant `La Bergerie`

The attractive clubhouse also houses the excellent La Bergerie restaurant with sizeable bar and a comfortable lounge with large fireplace in the winter. The perfect place to go for drinks and snacks and of course for an extensive lunch or dinner. The clubhouse and the patio look out over the golf course – a great view that reflects the peace and quiet of the surroundings from an authentic sheep farm that has been restored to its former glory.

Jazz evenings are organised regularly. They are very popular and a good feeling floats through the air all night. Other special theme nights are organised and they are always accompanied by dinner to mark the occasion.

The official competition, upon request, season starts mid-march and finishes on the 1st of November. Anyone may participate in one of our competitions as long as you have a valid FFG golf licence and medical certificate. With our broad programme of competitions you can lower your handicap and at the same time enjoy and share your passion of golf.
The Pro-Shop ---Reception

The fully equipped pro-shop offers everything you need to play golf. You will find a selection of fashionable golf wear or expand or replace your golfing kit. If required you can also rent golfing equipment.
The reception staff at the clubhouse will be happy to provide you with tourist information including daytrips and restaurant suggestions. At the reception you will find brochures, maps and programmes of cultural event in the area.



Every Thursday, during the high season and according to the availabilities, “Friendly” 9 hole competitions are organised. The club house is a 5min walk from the apartment in the Chateau.

The course
The Golf Club Château des Forges is surrounded by a 180 ha domaine on which a superb golf course of 110 ha has been designed by the architect Eriksson.
The Château des Forges Golf and Country club is one of the most beautiful golf courses in France. Giving you access to play 3 perfectly well maintained golf courses.
It is easy to spend the whole day at the golf Club. The Restaurant “La Bergerie du Golf” can be the perfect “in between two courses” break! There you can enjoy a snack, the meal of the day or a menu “à la carte”, watching the superb views overlooking the golf course or sitting by the fire on a cold winter’s day. Then you can be off for another 9 holes, then come back to the clubhouse for a drink with your friends and family. A perfect day outdoor !
The golf des Forges is the only 27 hole golf course of the department playable all year round thanks to the investment in a drainage system. Made up of three 9 hole courses, it offers different difficulties to challenge every golfer.The blue course fairly flat with woodland will suit all levels. Confirmed and middle handicap players will be delighted on the white course which accommodates several water hazards and finally the red course with its large undulating sloping greens will be a challenge to the most confirmed players. It is hardly ever necessarry to make reservation for the course;most of the time,it will be available to you within half an hour.

The apartement is on the top floor of the Chateau which enjoys vast views over the grounds, swimming pool & forest.
The interior space is as follows: Private entrance/hall 40m2 lounge diner with paquet flooring, character stone work exposed beams & very high ceilings, double bedroom with large fitted cupboards, bathroom/W.C, kitchen with oven six electric hobs and two small fridges, combination cooker/microwave. Upstairs is a very large Mezzanine which has two 4ft beds & a relaxing seating area.
In the lounge is a very modern TV/UK (free view) with an excellent DVD selection and also a variety of books.
Also available at the apartment are 2 quality tennis rackets and 2 children's rackets, balls, golf clubs, various board games and a set of French Boules.
This all adds up to a great vaule getaway for all the family,where else can you be King of the Castle with out it costing a Kings ransome.

For larger groups or friends please enquire regarding other apartments available.

Further details outdoors:
The gardens/grounds of the Chateau are (8.5Hectares , 21Acres) extremely private with a surrounding forest of 15 Hectares (great for walk/cycling and spotting wild life). The Chateau has been divided into twelve apartments each one privately owned. The rear of the property boast a large securely fenced outdoor pool with ample area for picnics etc. Within the grounds there are two enclosed tennis courts and in the very large communal conservatory there is a full size snooker table (balls & cues available--Adults only).

200m from the gates of the Chateau is a superb 27 hole Golf course with pro shop/ club house and restaurant with open terrace. The club house is 500meters from the Chateau, the club rents electric buggies golf equitment etc.
The course is sutable for all standards of players.
Also at the club house there are practice putting greens & a driving range, enclosed swimming pool & tennis courts.
The staff at the Golf club speak English & are extremely helpful and cater for all standards of players (the on course pro is english).
The area is very calm lots of trees no big roads anywhere to be seen or more importantly no electric pilons.

Further details

The apartment is only rented on a weekly period (or longer) the change over being Sat. The keys can be kept in the club house at reception for collection for late arrivals
Longer lets can be arranged.
We also have access to one other apartment within the Chateau if needed for larger groups etc .
Laundry room available.

Conditions

We require a 300€ euros/£200 Cheque deposit after booking repaid on/after departure.
There is an English/French speaking contact person available in the local town of Parthenay 25mins away, just in case any help is needed during your stay.
