The Aegean Islands region
The islands of Cyclades (pronounced Kyklades in Greek) get their name from the circular form that they engrave in the Aegean, surrounding the holy island of Delos.
Cyclades consist of 56 islands. Out of them, 24 are inhabited. Some are small and peaceful, despite others that are full of life and considered to be some of the most popular travel destinations throughout the world. However, all of them are beautiful and each one has its special, unique feature.
Everyone can find their own private paradise here in the beautiful Greek Islands.
Paros / Golden Beach area
Paros is one of the most cosmopolitan islands in the Cyclades and due to this fact every summer it is full of life.
Its picturesque harbours, the traditional villages, the beautiful beaches and its intense nightlife make Paros one of the best choices for summer vacations. As a classic Cycladic island, Paros is full of white houses, which are surrounded by the red of the flowers, the green of the vines, the golden of its sandy beaches and the blue of its clear waters.
The capital and main port of the island is Paroikia. You should try a small walk through the streets of the old city with the white houses, the terraces and the churches. Make sure to visit the Medieval Castle as well as the church of Christ that is situated in it. At Paroikia there is also the Holy Temple of the Virgin Mary of Ekatontapyliani (or Katapoliani) that was built by Saints Eleni and Constantine.
At the north of the island is the fishing village of Naousa, the most famous place in Paros. Through to its white pavements that are surrounded by traditional houses and churches, you will go to the small harbour of Naousa. At its entry are ruins of the Castle that was built in the 15th century by Samaripas. The multicoloured small boats and the white houses make a unique landscape.
At the centre of Paros you will find the highest village of Paros, Lefkes. Its white houses, the churches and the pavements are combined harmonically with the eucalyptuses and the olive trees. There are the ancient quarries of marble from which was made the famous statues Venus of Milos and Hermis of Praxitelis. Marpisa and Dryos are two other villages of Paros, worthy to be visited.
