The Aegean Islands region
The Cyclades are located in the middle of the Aegean sea where the beauty of its colour and the great luminance couldn't fail to impress the passer-by.
The "Cyclades" word derives from the word "Kyklos" which means "Circle". Indeed, the islands form a circle around Delos island, which historically was a very important site in ancient Greece.
Paros is located in the heart of the Cyclades. Other main islands include Naxos, Mykonos, Delos and Santorini.
Climate is warm and sunny from Easter right through to late autumn.
Paros / Naoussa area
Steeped in history going back to at least a 1000 years before the birth of Christ, Paros is a fascinating island to visit. It has a population of around 12, 000 and is easily traversed - around ten miles from north to south and similar from west to east.
Paros has exquisite sandy beaches in crystal waters (both isolated and popular). Most of the villages are situated around the coast, each with its own small picturesque port and fishing boats, the most spectacular being the small port of Naoussa. Traditional villages are also present in the centre of the island.
There are plenty of monasteries to visit, an archaeological museum in Paroikia village and archaeological spots across the island as well. Other highlights include festivals with traditional folk dance, art exhibitions, etc. Last by not least, the active will be tempted by diving, watersports and great nightlife.
Paros is a great base from which to explore other islands. It is the best connected island in the Cyclades, located approximately 3 to 5 hours by boat from Athens and half an hour by plane. Regular boats and excursions go to Antiparos, Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos as well to the more remote islands such as Folegandros, Sifnos and Serifos.
How to get there
From the airport of Athens you can take a taxi, the metro or the X96 bus to Piraeus Port where you can pick up a ferry to the Island of Paros. Main ferry company is Blue Star Ferries. You can book your tickets on www.bluestarferries.com and pick them up from the office at the Port. The ferry takes about four to five hours and is a very relaxing way to begin your holiday. You can also travel with speed boats if you want to get there faster, or even book a 30 minutes flight from Athens.
Full directions to the house can be given on each enquiry.
