There is a wireless bluetooth speaker system to enable you to listen to your favourite music, flat screen TV and free view satellite plus DVD player. DVD's are available on request at no extra charge. There is also independant wi-fi in the Renoir gite.

The light and airy kitchen is fully equipped to allow you to create mouth watering dishes to your heart's content from traditional French cuisine to sandwiches and salads. We have installed a dishwasher, washing machine, full size gas cooker, a fridge-freezer (to keep the white wine cool) a microwave and a programmable coffee maker so you can wake up to that fresh coffee smell in the morning.

The double French doors lead directly to your own private patio area with seating for 6 plus a BBQ to cook up those tasty steaks, juicy chops, succulent prawns or simple sausages and burgers. The 14m x 6m salt water swimming pool is just down the path and there are sun loungers placed around the pool for your use.

The master bedroom is tastefully decorated and has traditional exposed beams. It is furnished with a comfy double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and a hair-dryer. Electric fans are supplied for each bedroom.

The second bedroom has twin beds, wardrobe and lovely views across the valley. The third bedroom has bunk beds and again stunning views across the valley. All rooms come with standard 2 pillows per person but more are available on request, all pillows and duvets are hollow fibre and hypoallergenic. The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

The Dordogne is extremely Child-Friendly with lots to do for all ages and interests - it's not all castles, chateaux and history! If you want to keep them happy and occupied there's a broad range of 'day-trip' things to do, some even suitable for the occasional wet day. There are a host of activities for all the family from indoor and outdoor water parks with jet skis and quad bikes to messing about on the rivers in kayaks, fishing or riverboat trips. Horse and moutain bike riding are also available closeby.

A little further afield there are some of the best examples of prehistoric caves in Europe. The Dordogne region has literally hundreds of caves, many of them open for the public to visit. These caves (grottes in French) fall into two categories – caves that are famous for the prehistoric paintings they contain and caves that are more renowned for their rock formations – stalactites, stalagmites and other curious shapes formed by the effects of water over thousands of years.

The beautiful city of Bordeaux contains all the high street names along with the more exclusive designers but is also full of interesting architecture and history. The old quays on the waterfront (a world heritage site) are now home to a large range of "outlet" designer shops & well worth a visit.

Parcoul

Canoes, Kayaks & Mountain Bike Hire are a 5 minute drive away. Meandering along the Dronne river in a canoe or kayak is a delightful way to see the wildlife & very popular. Aubettere sur Dronne - 20 minutes drive

is home to the Association of Nautical & Open Air Sports graduates and executives who are at your disposal at this well organised and welcoming site for canoe & kayak hire. There is accompanied or unaccompanied hire and distances of 5,10,15 or up to 50kms available.

There is an assortment of Water Parks & Lakes closeby. Le Paradou Centre - 5 minutes walk - is a chalet holiday complex also catering for campers and is just a short walk from La Maison Grange. It offers a variety of family activities including crazy golf , trampolining, tennis and volleyball. The fresh water lake has a sandy beach with pedalos and toboggans with a water slide open from late July until the end of August. There is a seperate lake for fishing. The complex has a bar and restaurant, has weekly music nights and is open to non residents.

Brossac Lakes - 25 minutes drive - these fresh water lakes offer a variety of water activities including jet skiing. There is a safe, man made beach and swimming. Facilities include a restaurant that overlooks the lakes. Another great day only 25 minutes from La Maison Grange.

Beau Vallon Montguyon - 30 minutes drive - this beautiful lagoon is found deep in the countryside outside Montguyon. It is an extremely child-friendly complex with large sandy beaches, adventure playground, nature walks around the lagoon and in the pine forests, snack bar & BBQ restaurant. Pedalos and small boats are available for hire. Highly recommended for a great family day out.

Le Pizou (20 minute drive) Night Markets are an unusual experience and a great opportunity to wander around the stalls, then select something tasty to eat from an array of regional dishes on offer, maybe duck, or steak, chips or crepes. Tables are set up for your use and there is always entertainment that goes on into the night. A great time can be guarenteed. Bring your own plates & cutlery & settle down at a table for the rest of the evening like the locals. Taste of real French life. - Highly recommended! Every Tuesday evening during July & August

Aubeterre sur Dronne & Bonnes sur Dronne are home to tournaments involving games & races on the River Dronne in both villages. Great fun to watch. During July & August

Angouleme -approximately 50kms - Vintage Car Rally around the old city ramparts. Great fun to watch - not just for enthusiasts. Annual event usually 3rd week in September

"Everything you would want to make a perfect holiday"

This was our second visit to La Maison Grange and it certainly won't be the last. I suppose what really makes this holiday so good is the attention to detail in all matters of the owners, Jane and John Jones. Somehow they manage to deliver the right balance of great customer service without unwanted intrusion. Arriving to find the essentials already in the fridge, including the first bottle of wine of the holiday, is a huge pleasure for example. They're also good company and do a fantastic community barbecue in the middle of the week if you wish to join in. They certainly don't imply it's compulsory, but it's a mistake not to give it serious consideration.
The gites themselves are spacious, extremely well equipped and elegantly appointed and you could simply turn up with a pair of shorts and a swimming cossie and be absolutely fine. Indeed the pool, within a few paces of our large patio table, is inviting, safe, spotless, and accessible with plenty of poolside space for enough uncrowded sunloungers and unbrella shade for everyone.
Within easy driving are several interesting towns which are more than worth a visit with food and entertainment of night markets (a highlight in Le Pizou which we repeated in our second week) and famous wine centres such as Saint Emilion. Bordeaux is a also city not to be missed - gracious, beautiful and charming. We didn't try to get to the seaside this year - it's an hour or so away - but there are several lakes with beach and water facilities nearby. Local restaurants are within easy driving too. Oddly, although there are good and typical French ones to choose from within reach, the nearest is a tex-mex in Parcoul - turned out to be perfect for celebrating my birthday there with John and Jane and our gite neighbours.
For me, La Maison Grange provides an ideal holiday. No anxieties about the standard of the accommodation and grounds, plenty of sun, rest and things to do, plenty of privacy if you want it but the company of other gite occupants if you prefer to be gregarious (our neighbours this year were lovely) and excellent value too.
