The Paphos District

The main attraction of Paphos Town is its picturesque fishing harbour, which is bustling with people of all ages throughout the day and into the evening. Visitors can take boat trips around the coastline from here, or enjoy a number of exciting water sports activities, and there are several shops selling souvenirs, postcards and local crafts to browse. Or perhaps you would just prefer to relax on the waterfront and enjoy a cold drink or meal in one of the many tavernas and cafés, whilst watching the colourful fishing boats and yachts bobbing on the water. There are also several open-air fish restaurants situated along the quay, where you can savour the taste of freshly-caught fish from the Mediterranean Sea.

The focal point of Paphos harbour is the medieval fort which stands proudly on the water’s edge. Originally built by the Byzantines (East Roman Empire) to protect the harbour area, this fort is all that remains of a much earlier castle dating back to the 13th century. The ancient structure has taken many forms over its long history, including a fortress, prison and British salt warehouse, and was demolished and rebuilt several times over the centuries by the Lusignans, Venetians and Ottomans. If you get the chance to explore the castle, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the marina from the top.

A visit to Paphos will give you a glimpse of Cyprus’ ancient history and present beauty, which will undoubtedly leave you wanting more.

Paphos / Tremithousa area

Tremithousa is simply the ideal place to enjoy the best of both worlds , a contemporary Mediterranean lifestyle on rolling Mediterranean hillsides, whilst at the same time remaining within an easy 5 minute drive from the amenities, services and shops of Paphos town. Receiving an average annual rainfall of about 520 mms; vines of wine making varieties, vegetables, cereals, forage plants, citrus, almond, and walnut trees, and legumes are cultivated in the region. The village has a reputation for the aromatic and tasty honey that it produces. Tremithousa connects in the north to the monastery of Agios Neofytos and the charming fishing villages of Polis and Laatchi. To the north east, the land rises through vineyards and the Paphos Forest to Cedar Valley and the Troodos mountains. The Akamas Peninsula lies to the north west of Paphos and is a unique area. Relatively large and unspoilt, it possesses remarkably diverse features in vegetation, wildlife, geology, landscapes and coasts.
