The Paphos District
Cyprus is a jewel of an island situated in the eastern Mediterranean sea. Warm and welcoming people, one of the best climates in the world, fresh local food and undeniably stunning natural beauty, Cyprus has it all.
Paphos is situated in the south western part of the island. The town sits beside a lively and pretty fishing harbour with a good selection of tavernas serving local Cypriot cuisine. The harbour overlooks the medieval castle and is a great place for people watching. Away from the harbour, Paphos is a bustling town with an interesting covered market and a wide array of shops and restaurants hosting some excellent nightlife.
Paphos is steeped in history. Visit the 3rd century BC Tombs of the Kings and the House of Dionysos with its perfectly preserved mosaics.
Paphos / Coral Bay area
Whatever type of holiday you prefer this location has SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!
From the property, a 10 minute walk past local tavernas takes you down to the pretty fishing harbour of Agios Georgios (St. George). There is a small sandy beach here which is ideal for families. You can bathe safely here in the crystal clear, azure waters of the eastern Mediterrannean. From here you can watch the fishing boats bring in their catch, walk for miles along the stunning Sea Caves coastline with its dramatic rock formations or simply gaze for hours out to sea. There is a beautiful church located at Agios Georgios overlooking the nature sanctuary of Yeronnissoss Island and a truly fantastic fish restaurant with absolutely amazing views across the Akamas Peninsula - an area of outstanding natural beauty. The restaurant specialises in cooking freshly caught fish from the harbour below. Understandably the Sunday meze is extremely popular with local Cypriots.
A 5 minute car drive takes you to the infamous Coral Bay with its dazzling, long sandy beach and an abundance of bars and tavernas. Also nearby is the pretty town of Pegeia which has a handy local supermarket and other shops and tavernas.
A 5 minute drive in the other direction takes you to the national park of the Akamas Peninsula which stretches all the way from Agios Georgios to Polis on the north west shore of Cyprus. Here you will find Lara Beach; a famous sanctuary for nesting turtles. The diversity of the wildlife and vegetation combined with stunning coastal landscapes will appeal to nature lovers and hikers.
A 20 minute drive to Polis takes you through traditional Cypriot villages, vineyards and extensive orange groves. Arriving from the hills behind Polis you are met with panoramic views of the north west coastline. Polis is a pretty, traditional town with plenty of gift shops and tavernas. Nearby at Latchi you can eat at one of the many fish restaurants at the newly built marina close to Chryschou Bay. From here you can also visit the beautiful village and surrounding area of Neo Chorion and the Baths of Aphrodite. The exclusive Anassa hotel is located here beside the national park of Akamas.
A 20 minute drive takes you to Paphos (see details above).
Further afield, Pissouri and Limassol are well worth a visit and are very accessible on the excellent coastal roads and inland motoways.
Golf entusiasts will be aware that Cyprus is rapidly establishing itself as a premier European golfing destination. Courses at Tsada, Secret Valley and Aphrodite Hills are all reachable within 30 minutes.
