The Paphos District
Paphos itself consists of two towns each with its very own character. Ktima on the cliff (Upper Paphos) and Kato Paphos by the sea (Lower Paphos). One is virtually unchanged over the centuries and thoroughly Cypriot, while the other has expanded over the last decade.
In Kato Paphos (in the archaeological park) you will find many fine mosaics and buildings from the Greek and Roman periods, plus the Harbour Castle complete with fishing boats.
Close by is the Church of St Paul's Pillar where it is said is where St Paul was tied, can be found.
In the town of Paphos you wil find the old market place, surrounded by many shops, restaurants and the traditional tavernas.
Paphos / Coral Bay area
Coral Bay is to the west of Paphos and is 3 km below the friendly hillside village of Peyia.
Coral Bay beach has the European Blue Flag and is well known for its soft sand and crystal clear waters. The sea has a shallow margin where children may play safely. The summer heat if often tempered by a gentle breeze.
In the busier months there are many water sports on offer, including pedaloes, water ski-ing, banana boats, jet skis and windsurfing.
Close to the bay you will find a host of amenities from banks to mini-markets, bars and restaurants and street cafes for that casual alfresco meal. There are tavernas and snack bars overlooking the sea so you don't have to leave the beach for too long.
Going further west will take you to the unspoilt Akamas Peninsula which incorporates Lara Bay (famous for the turtles which come to lay their eggs there) and Latchi well known for its fish restaurants right on the sea front. A further 5 minute drive will take you up to the Baths of Aphrodite where legend has it, is where the Goddess of Love came to bathe. The views from here are spectacular.
This villa really is in a perfect location for a relaxing seaside holiday and an excellent base for touring Paphos and the rest of the island.
