The Lake District
With accessible mountains, beautiful lakes and tarns, woodlands and moorlands, the Lake District is a haven, not only for outdoor enthusiasts, but for anyone who loves peace and beauty.
The changing seasons bring with them different highlights – Spring is a time of new life with baby lambs, Wordsworth's daffodils, and walks through bluebell woods. Summer brings it's own magic, either lazing by a lake or enjoying the view from the high mountain peaks. Beautiful Autumn colours hopefully bring along an Indian Summer and wild winter on the frosty fells, makes the most of an open fire and a seasonal glass of mulled wine.
The beautiful lakes, with dramatic fells rising from their shores, are just part of a great experience of excellent local food and fantastic activities. A holiday here will live long in the memory and get you coming back for more.
Cherry Tree Cottage is the perfect starting place to explore the Lake District, in particular the Northern Fells and lakes. The property is within easy reach of the Lorton valley, leading on to the Buttermere valley. With the lakes of Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater, this is one of the most picturesque valleys in the Lake District. Haystacks (Wainwright's favourite Lakeland fell) is at the top of the valley.
The market town of Cockermouth (home of Wordsworth) is only a short 10 minute walk away and has a large variety of restaurants, cafe's and bars. The high street has several independent shops and boutiques and the Jennings Brewery also hails from here, it's well worth a visit and doing the tour if not just for the chance to sample some of the fine ales they produce at the end of it.
It's a 20 minute drive from the cottage into Keswick, a busy market town (market day is Thursday and Saturday) with lots going on. Here you can go boating on the lake, hire bikes or take a trip to the Puzzling Place or the Pencil Museum (both good wet weather activities). Keswick also boasts an indoor swimming pool with wave machine, the renowned Theatre by the Lake and a cinema (which also shows World Cinema films on a Sunday afternoon throughout winter).
The visitor centre at Whinlatter is close by and has café, bike hire and high ropes course (Go Ape), as well as a live video camera in the Osprey nest (May-August). There is a recently opened mountain bike trail (said to be one of the best and longest forest trails in England).

"Great little cottage"
Me and my boyfriend stayed here for four nights and had a wonderful time. The cottage was very clean and homely, we had hours of fun keeping the log fire going. The only issue we had was a van next do… More
