The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region
Pamporovo is situated in the stunning and welcoming Rhodope Mountains. Thought the ages they have been a source of legends and stories that have been passed down through the centuries. These mountains are where the mythical singer Orpheus resided. Here was born the song which, together with Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, flies through space, looking for contact with alien intelligence.
Outstanding pine forests, green meadows and mountain peaks bathed in sunlight, you will never forget the incredible Rhodope Mountains and its people. Their hospitality and their delicious traditional dishes will make you feel especially welcome. Pamporovo / Pamporovo Centre area
Pamporovo- the second major Bulgarian mountain resort, is located 1650 m above sea level in the Western Rhodopes, among evergreen spruce forests, picturesque meadows, strange rock formations and beautiful mountain peaks. It is located in a region for its unique folklore traditions with in 260 km of Sofia and 85 km of Bulgaria's second-largest city, Plovdiv.
Pamporovo is a ski-centre for all categories of skiers, it has excellent ski runs including even a racing ski run for giant slalom, as well as a first class built-up ski lift system. There is a ski-school of international category too, with more than 100 highly qualified instructors. The TV tower on Mount Snezhanka, starting point of many of the ski runs, has a cafe and an observation gallery giving a marvelous view of the Rhodope mountains and makes an important landmark for hikers.
The hotels and restaurants lure with the authentic for this region hospitality and superb traditional Rhodope dishes. There are numerous options for hiking in the Rodopi Mountain – to Rozhen Peak, the Smolyan lakes the Orpheus Cliff. Trips can be arranged to the nearby places of interest such as Stoikite, Chepelare and its unique cave museum, Smolyan, the ethnographic enclave of Shiroka Laka, the Bachkovo Monastery and Plovdiv.
How to get there
By plain: Bulgaria is only 3 hours away from the UK. Most major airlines, as well as some charters, fly to the capital Sofia (3 hours drive from Pamporovo) and during the winter season some charter flights are landing in Plovdiv (11/2 driving hours from Pamporovo). State buses and private vans shuttling between Plovdiv (2 hrs) and Smolyan (1 hr) regularly stop at Pamporovo

Guestbook for Saint George Apartments
Went skiing with the kids if march 09 for the first time. Had a great time. Kids loved the 10 pin bowling ally in the hotel opposite. John Makin 2009.
St George was only 5 minutes away form main resort where the bars and restaurants where. Nice and quite on the night to get a good nights sleep for skiing the next day. Lisa Greening 2009.
Just what we needed for our trip. As we had our own car the resort was only around the corner and the parking was secure. Flat was clean and most cooking facilities where provided. Paul Allen 2009.
