The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region

Pamporovo is the pearl of the Bulgarian mountain resorts, and nestles in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains, 260 km from the capital Sofia, and 85 km south of the city of Plovdiv. It is close to the Greek border, and is the southern-most ski resort in Europe. In the summer, Pamporovo is a major walking centre for Bulgaria. The Ski lifts run all year, so for those of feint heart, the walking can all be down-hill!
