About the home

The Grand Monastery is situated in the picturesque Pirin/Rhodope mountain range of Bulgaria surrounded by pine forests. The Grand Monastery is a luxury newly built apartment complex . The apartment has been tastefully furnished with quality furniture & equipment that includes a double bedroom with en-suite, a twin bedded second bedroom, a separate bathroom with wc, living room with sofa bed, dining area & fully equipped kitchen, comfortably accommodating 6 people. The apartment is located on the 3rd floor which can be accessed by escalators & lifts, it also has a balcony with table & chairs.

The complex offers a wide range of on-site facilities (small charge for some) that include a fully equipped spa centre, indoor swimming pool (winter only), gym, restaurant, lobby bar, small shop, ski storage, ten pin bowling, night club, internet access & car parking.

From the rear of the complex there is immediate access onto a green ski slope, which leads to the main ski centre where ski passes & equipment can be obtained. One of the main chair lifts to the top of the mountain is also located here.

The centre of Pamporovo is situated just a short distance away where you will find supermarkets, restaurants, bars, shops & a medical centre.

Both bedrooms have large double wardrobes & dressing tables. Winter duvets/ linen/towels are provided.
The lounge has a double sofa bed. TV & DVD player with a selection of DVDs to choose from.
Both bathrooms have baths with overhead showers.
Fully equipped kitchen that includes a 4 ring hob, oven, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, washing machine, toaster, kettle & coffee maker.

Further details outdoors:
24 hour reception with English speaking staff, provides any information required about the complex, the local area and activities such as quad bikes, mountain bikes, horse riding, ski equipment hire & passes etc.
Skiing information: length of ski runs 31km, longest run 3.8km. there are ski runs of all degrees of difficulty to suit all abilities, however, the resort is particularly good for beginners & intermediates. Lessons can be easily arranged & the majority of the instructors speak good English. There is a medical centre within the centre of town & a medical rescue service on the ski slopes.

Conditions

25% non-refundable deposit on booking. The balance of 75% due 30 days prior to the holiday start date.
£100 refundable breakage deposit to be made at the time of paying the final balance. Subject to a satisfactory property inspection this will be refunded within two weeks after your departure.
Strictly no smoking except on the balcony.
No pets allowed.
Car not necessary in the winter, advisable in the summer.
Changeover day flexible.
No Hen or Stag groups.

The Pirin/Rhodope Mountains region

Set in the heart of the picturesque Rhodope Mountains Pamporovo is the southernmost ski resort in Europe. Located 250km from the capital Sofia and 85km from the historic city of Plovdiv, Pamporovo is close to the Greek border.

The resort enjoys approximately 120 days of winter sunshine, has an average snow layer of 140-150cm and has virtually no avalanche risk. The highest peak is Snejanka at 1926m whilst the resort sits at an altitude of 1650m.
In addition to winter sports the Rhodope Mountains offer a range of activities during the summer from walking in magnificent pine forests to fishing, quad biking, horse riding and mountain biking.

The Pamporovo area

Pamporovo is a great value for money ski resort, with ski runs to suit all standards from beginners to advanced. It is the sunniest mountain resort in Europe providing the perfect combination during winter - plenty of snow and sparkling sunshine.

The resort has 25km of marked piste (increasing every season) with ski runs ranging from green to black suitable for beginners, intermediates and advanced. There are 5 chair lifts and 13 drag lifts that have a capacity of 8500 skiers per hour, the lifts operate from 8.30 - 16.30.

Pamporovo has a ski kinder which is open all day and an internationally renowned ski school providing beginners with the best possible introduction to both skiing and snowboarding. The majority of instructors speak good English. The runs are patrolled everyday by a mountain rescue service and there is a 24 hour medical centre in the town.

Apres ski in Pamporovo is plentiful and inexpensive, there are a number of disco's and lively bars plus plenty of restaurants to choose from. We would recommend the White House, slightly more expensive than other restaurants, the White Hart which is busy and lively and the BBQ restaurant which offers a traditional floor show that includes singing and dancing. There are plenty of shops and facilities in the centre of town including banks, a post office and a well stocked supermarket.

If visiting in the summer there are plenty of places to visit. Take a trip to the top of the TV Tower where there is a viewing platform that provides spectacular views of the surronding area. We would also recommend visits to the Rozlen Observatory (the largest observatory in Eastern Europe), the town of Smolyan and its nearby lakes and a day trip to include the village of Shiroka Laka. the Devils Throat Cave and the Trigad Gorge.

A two centre holiday is worth considering in the summer with a week in the Rhodope Mountains and a week at the Black Sea Coast.

Scheduled flights to Sofia are available from Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, Dublin & Manchester with British Airways, Bulgaria Air, Easyjet and Wizzair. Charter flights to Plovdiv are available from some UK airports during the ski season.

Transfers from the airports take approximately 3 hours from Sofia & 1.5 hours from Plovdiv. There are regular coach transfers from Sofia and the Grand Monastery will arrange private transfers or car hire if required. Car hire is available from terminal 2 at Sofia Airport & we would recommend the following companies; www.auto-europe.co.uk & www.economycarrentals.com.
