Ararat (cottage)

Home description

Ararat is located in a private location within a small cluster of houses on a walkers route. There are three marked walks directly from the cottage that are excellent for discovering the outstanding beauty of the area which is surrounded by steep gorges and pine topped hills. For swimming,the Viaur river is only 1km away with facilities such as ice creams, drinks and kayak hire (5 euros per person). Nearest Sandy Beach is only ten minutes drive and is supervised by lifeguards in the summer. There is also exclusive use of the games room opposite the cottage which is packed with games, table football and darts.
The cottage is managed by English speaking owners who are available if required. Uniquely Ararat is a green holiday. The site has solar, wind and hydro electric power, with solar domestic hot water, and recycling schemes in place. Energy saving devices are installed throughout the site and water is collected and stored. More information is available on site.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Tarn region

The Tarn is an area of outstanding natural beauty with winding gorges, steep hills and woodland. The climate is hot, dry and sunny in the summer and cold and dry in the winter. The area is surrounded by Bastide towns (walled, medieval towns) which contain a rich history and have retained much of their orginial character. Access throught the area is good as roads are well developed.

Pampelonne area

Pampelonne is one of those sleepy French villages you drive through and wonder whether or not it is in fact deserted! However, the village does offer ecxellent local facilities such as an English speaking restaurant and Bar, village shop, boulangerie, Post Office and Pharmacy. The village doctor is always at hand can generally see anyone should the need arise within a short waiting period.

The cottage consists of two bedrooms, bathroom, lounge, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen area is simple yet practical, there is a gas cooker, fridge freezer, microwave etc. In the lounge area you will find two comfy sofas, TV and DVD player with a large DVD library of over 700 DVDs. There is a 4 seater eating area both indoors and outside on the private terrace. There is a double Bedroom and a twin bedroom with a separate DVD and TV and a hifi suitable for an Ipod or other MP3 player. A variety of games and some toys (mostly for girls) are also provided in the cottage.The bathroom has a multi jet massage shower to immerse yourself in!

The private terrace and courtyard area has a great view of the village and is sunny for most of the day -great for just hanging out. Reclining chairs are provided . Guests have exclusive access to a games lounge directly opposite the cottage (solar powered of course) with table football and darts. An ideal hideaway for the kids or grown up teenagers!

The area is surrounded by numerous local woodland walks to discover which range from 20 minutes to 4hrs and are suitable for all the family. The Viaur river is just 1km away and is perfect for those who enjoy swimming, fishing or canoing! There are many local 'village' style restaurants which provide a variety of local traditional and foreign cuisine. The nearby town of Albi is a must to visit and has a huge selection of restaurants. Pampelonne Village is just 5 minutes drive and has a local shop, pharmacy, bakery and a cafe/ Restaurant. Just 1km away is a campsite that sells iced drinks and ice creams and also offers canoe hire if you fancy a trip up the river. Ararat has a solar powered weather station and provides up to date weather reports on request.
The views in the area are outstanding and even though the property is quite isolated facilities are located within 5-15 minutes drive as the main road (RN88) is just 5 minutes drive. Local holiday facilities include Cap Decouverte 20 minutes - large complex with beaches, toboggan run, ski lifts, outdoor pool. Espace Atlantis - mutlipool complex 30 minutes. Cordes sur ciel - Bastide town with superb restaurants etc. Local lake beach, 15 minutes. Plan de L'eau de Roucarie -manned beach on the edge of a beautiful lake perfect for picnicking or swimming or just lazing around in the sun. (A parasol is available to take to the Beach area). The area is a walkers haven with marked walks directly from the cottage. There is a marked nature trail by the river, where you can also take a picnic using the local facilities which include BBQ and toilets!
