The gite is furnished to a high standard with a mixture of antique French furniture bought locally and modern pieces added for additional comfort. We have taken care during the renovation of the property to preserve as many original features as possible which include exposed beams and stonework and beautiful large windows with wooden shutters. The bathroom includes a freestanding bath, separate shower and WC and there is also an additional upstairs toilet.

We have provided a bookshelf crammed with books for both adults and children to enjoy during your stay as well as adults' and childrens' DVDs and children's toys.

Further details outdoors

The gite has its own private shaded terrace with table, chairs and BBQ. The pool is enclosed partly by a wall and partly by a perspex barrier so as to be safe without obstructing the view. There are ample loungers and umbrellas for shade around the pool as well as loads of inflatable toys. Please note the pool is shared with the owners. Occasionally during July or August we may also rent out our own house, in which case the pool will be shared with another small group of holidaymakers (4 to 6.)

The ground also offer two swings and a large, netted trampoline as well as plenty of room to find your own space should you wish to - as well as the garden, the property has two fields.

Further details

The large garden and pool are shared with the owners, although the gite has its own private terrace. Occasionally during July or August we may also rent out our own house, in which case the pool and large garden will be shared with another small group of holidaymakers (4 to 6.)

Apart from during July and August, electricity used will be charged at cost. During July and August, electricity is included in the price.

The Midi-Pyrenees region

The Ariege is one of the least populated areas of France and an area of outstanding natural beauty. It has historic villages and towns, Cathar castles and caves as well as outdoor activites such as kayaking, cycling and walking and skiing in the winter. You can also easily take a day trip to the beach or mountains from the gite. The Ariege is also well-known for its fishing and golf and both can be enjoyed nearby.

Throughout the summer there are many local outdoor festivals and fetes to enjoy.

There are loads of great, inexpensive restaurants very close by and vineyards to visit within an hour's drive.

Toulouse, one hour's drive or train ride away, is France's fourth biggest city and has everything from quirky boutiques to department stores as well as beautiful historic buildings and museums and art galleries.

Pamiers

As well as great walking and cycling from the door, kayaking and a "parcours dans les arbes" are just 10 minutes away.

There is a market three times a week in Pamiers and Mirepoix's Monday market is also well worth a visit.

Within ten minutes' drive there is an animal park for children and within half an hour, several more devoted separately to eagles, reptiles, wolves and more. Riding and pony rides are available in Escosse.

Lac du Mondely is around 20 minutes away where you can swim in a natural lake with beach and a dedicated children's paddling area. Slightly further away you can enjoy Lac Puivert or Lac Montbel which also have children's play areas and sailing at Lac Montbel.

There is a simple cafe in the village of Escosse and the local town of Pamiers, 10 minutes away has several fantastic, inexpensive restaurants where you can get a great three-course lunch for about 17 euros - specific recommendations will be provided..

"A peaceful retreat, with plenty of places to visit and a view to die for....."

We had a superb week here. The gite was beautiful and really spacious. It had a lovely private outdoor dining area and a great pool. The view was absolutely breathtaking. The location was perfect. Remote enough for total peace and quiet but close enough (15 mins drive) to major roads to visit places with ease. Lots to see and do (Foix Castle, Mirepoix, and Plateau de Beille gave you a perfect viewpoint of the peaks of the Pyrenees). Our 3 teenagers enjoyed all the various things we did and saw, so that was good enough for us!

"Stunning location, comfortable and well appointed Gite finished to high standard"

My wife, 2 teenage children and I stayed at Vue des Montagnes for 2 weeks in July 2011 and had a great time despite some indifferent weather. The house is situated in a stunning location that overlooks the Pyrenees, and is very tranquil and peaceful. The gite is near the small town of Escosse which has very limited facilities. The nearest town for shopping and restaurants is Pamiers a 20 minute drive away. The gite has recently been renovated by Catherine, Alex and their 2 children, who live on site to a high standard.
There is plenty to do in this area, hiking, rafting, mountain sports etc. The location is very rural and quite so roads are ideal for walking and cycling. Would definitely recommend to those who wish to get away to rural France. One cautionary note it is very rural and you need to get in to the swing of the local ways! Lunch is from 12.00-1.30 dont try to get lunch after this time. Most restaurants and shops close on a Sunday and a Wednesday. Be warned and get your food shopping done before Sunday.
Local speciality seems to be entrecote of beef with chips, so much for French cuisine!
We did find a good Italian restaurant in Pamiers! As we liked this restaurant we decided to go there on our last night for dinner, a Saturday night, only to discover that it was closed for 3 weeks for holiday! We ended up having a carry out pizza sitting at a table next to the car park! Lovely pizzas cooked in a wood fired oven. Carry out even closes at 9.30 on a Saturday night!
The area has plenty to offer but a car is essential. The gite is excellent and we will be back.
