The Costa Brava/Catalonia region
We assume that most of you will visit this beautiful part of Spain for the sun and the sea, but of course there is more than that. First of all there is the spectacular coastline with its bays and sandy coves, its quaint fishing villages, its many pine trees and breath taking views. Catalonia is much greener and more forested than the rest of Spain. Catalans have their own language, their own culture and their own cuisine and they are a very friendly people.
Pay a visit to one of the medieval villages in the area, like Peratallada, Pals (the old town), Ullastret, Cruilles, Vulpellac or Begur (most have weekly markets). Make sure you see the HABANERAS (fishermen singing old sailor songs) or to dance the SARDANAS (authentic Catalan folk dancing).
Have a lunch or evening meal by the beach of Calella, Llafranc, Tamariu, Sa Tuna, Sa Riera or Aiguablava. Taste some of the local wine in one of the bodegas or visit one of the vineyards!
Have a look at the excavasions of the old Roman and Greek cities near Empuries or Ullastret or pay a visit to one of the places Salvador Dalí frequented, like Figueres (Dalí museum), Púbol (Gala’s castle) and Port Lligat (Dalí’s house museum). Of course you must not forget the cultural sights in Barcelona, like Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia and the picasso museum!
Pals / Playa de Pals area
Playa de Pals is situated on the Costa Brava, also called "the pearl of the Costa Brava". The beach is wide and large. There are many restaurants, shops and bars. The area is great for surfing, golfing (two courses in Pals), scuba diving, biking, walking - try the walk from Playa de Pals to Sa Riera along the coast line. The medievil village of Pals is a must to see. Have a look at Begur with it's quaint square with lots of restaurants and bars
