The Mallorca/Majorca region

Shopping & Handicrafts:

The same diversity that the Illes Balears offer at a cultural level is also evident in crafts. You can buy arts and crafts in glass, ceramics, embroidery, fabrics, shoes, leather, silverware, trinkets, jewellery, pearls, all the latest trends in fashion and all those things that artists from round about have introduced alongside the traditions of the Illes Balears.

Cuisine:

The result of a complex history of ancestral civilizations gaining sway and yielding to one another, Mallorcan cuisine offers one a taste of all the cultures that have shaped its personality. Thus variety is one of its hallmarks. Island cuisine abounds in rich vegetable courses, exquisite seafood creations, and splendid meat dishes.

Natura:

Mondragó Natural Park - Santanyí - Mallorca

The Mondragó Natural Park is located in one of the areas with the richest bird life in Mallorca. It has a great variety of landscapes, such as winding river torrents which flow out into beautiful beaches and oak woods with an abundance of orchids.

Cabrera Archipelago Maritime-Land National Park - Mallorca

10 km to the south of Cabo Salines is the Cabrera archipelago, designated a Maritime-Land National Park.

The Drach Caves in Porto Cristo - Manacor - Mallorca

The Drach caves are some of the largest of the island, thanks to their nearly 2,400 metres of length and a maximum depth of 25 metres under the sea.

"Perfection just a stones throw from the beach."

Hi everyone,

Myself and my two young children (5 & 7) stayed here half term week in october. Everything was great with the appartment and it is litteraly on the beach, the most westerly one in palma nova. Though only 5 minutes from the glitzy and loud magaluf, it was quiet enough to not really notice the hustle and bustle, though peak times may be a little more loud. Joan provided receipts for the rental payment and also for the deposit which he refunded without a problem when he met us to vacate the appartment.

Minor issues were only having no curtain or blind in the room I stayed (just a voile) and that the rather small television had a faulty scart/connection meaning a green picture most of the time.

The appartment is spacious, has everything in the kitchen you need for a little self catering and is just accross the road from many decent quality cafes and restaurants.

Most of the restaurants shut from late october for the season so be aware after then self catering is a must.

Hope all this helps,

Liam

"Great views but..."

We found the owner very helpful but as we arrived late evening with a toddler, a few basic items such as a pint of milk, washing up liquid and more than one toilet roll would have helped our stay. For the first time in our experience there wasn't even a sponge/cloth to wash up with!
The shower (not over the bath as the description states) is very basic and leaked everywhere but the owner was very good and came round straight away with fresh towels (although he couldn't fix the problem during our stay). The apartment is in need of some refurbishment (certainly doesn't have new furnishings etc as suggested), especially the two mismatched sofas (one of which was a sofa bed) as they were most uncomfortable to sit on being just the base with no cushions. As the apartment does not benefit from double glazing and people seemed to come and go from the apartment building at all hours of the night, the sound i.e. loud conversations and slamming of gates and doors carried into our rooms and disturbed our sleep. We carried DVDs with us as we were led to believe that there was a player for them, this however wasn't the case! Be aware of the fact that the TV itself was very small.
The apartment block is literally on the beautifully-maintained beach. As well as this there is an amazing view of the bay and hillside from the balcony and the beach was lovely, although finding any Spanish food was a bit of a struggle. If you do want to sample Spanish food and culture, we recommend getting the bus to Palma as it was very efficient with frequent services and a lot cheaper than getting a taxi. On the other hand, if you favour the taste of Britain abroad, Palma Nova is for you. We prefer the authentic Britain right here at home & like to experience different cuisines/cultures when abroad!
Overall, we would not return to the Son Matias area of Palma Nova as it wasn't to our taste, however if some small touches were added to the apartment it would be an ideal base for a small party. The only reason we would not recommend the apartment to our friends is that we would not wish to take that responsibility and recommend something that we were not wholly sure of ourselves. One of our party had stayed in an apartment in Palma City before and on comparison did not think that Apartment ART gave good value for money, regardless of the view.
