Home description

The small self-catering bedsitter apartment, which is nestled on the hillside 30 metres above sea level, is part of a family home. From the glassed lounge-dining are, one can enjoy undisturbed views across the Mediterranean sea to the Aeolian Islands. The terraced garden below the house is an extension of the beautiful Sicilian countryside behind the accommodation. Cobbled streets lead to the apartment, where, on a balmy Sicilian evening you can join the locals and sit out enjoying the sea breeze.

Positioned on the edge of the village, within walking distance to the centre it is near Cefalù and the autostrada. The accommodation is just under an hours drive from Palermo airport, along the coast and is near the beautiful Parco delle Madonie.

The Sicily region

Sicily is the largest region of Italy, with a population of 5 milion people. It has one of the richest histories starting from the ingenious people Sicuni & Siculi, Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Spanish and the Bourban.

Each one leaving behind a trace of their presence, even the people their physical characteristics can easily resemble a Greek, Arabic or Germanic. The Sicilian dialect has some influences from the Arabic, the French from the time of the Sicilian Vespers. Important places to visit Monreale, Agrigento, Siracusa, Piazza Amerina, Cefalù, Noto.

The hottest months are July and August, the winters are mild around 10° - 15°C.

Palermo / Santa Ambrogio area

Sicily is filled with Festivals the religious traditions of Easter, starting with the Holy Week and Palm Sunday, are eagerly followed in Cefalù.
On Good Friday the touching Solenne Processione (“Solemn Procession”) winds through the city’s streets behind the sacred images of the dead Christ and Mary Our Lady in Sorrow.

Palm Sunday focuses on the usual blessing of olive branches and palms, with the latter woven together following an ancient tradition.

How to get there

Ryanair flight daily into Palermo, Punta Raisi airport which is located 113kms from the village. The drive from the airport to the village is most of the way on motorway A20 Messina/Palermo, exiting at Castelbuono/Pollino and then taking road SS113 towards Cefalù, after 3 kms is the village of Sant'Ambrogio where someone will keep you to take you to the apartment.
The ferry port is in Palermo which is 90 kms away.

Consists of a large room with a double bed, sofa bed, corner kitchen, separate large bathroom and lots of storage space and then a doorway that leads onto the terrace.

Located in the middle section of the house, the apartment has a private entrance from the street.
The splendid views of Sicily from the terrace across the Mediterranean sea make it a perfect place to enjoy al fresco dining on a hot summer's evening, a fine Sicilian wine the perfect refreshment.

Carmelina is passionate about Sicily and owns many historical apartments in the area. I would thoroughly recommend a booking via this site if you are looking for a more authentic experience of Sicily away from the tourist crowds
