This charming Sicilian 'Masseria' which belongs to the family of the Barons Sgadari is located on the top of a hill near Petralia Soprana at an altitude of around 750 metres above sea level and is surrounded by centuries-old trees next to the source of the Salso river.
The old stables, the granaries, the barns and the stalls have been transformed into charming apartments which are furnished with elegance and style. The atmosphere is quiet and intimate and the spaces inspire a sense of inner peace.

The Sicily region

The largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily has a warm climate and is famous for its rich culture and history. Palermo / Petralia Soprana area

The Masseria is located in the countryside next to the Madonie Nature Reserve in the heart of an extensive country estate near to the village of San Giovanni. From here you have an opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful and untouched villages in Sicily : Polizzi Generosa, Petralia Sottana e Soprana, Ganci, Sperilinga and Geraci Siculo.

Also to be experienced are the local culinary specialities and the numerous local festivals (see the part of the website dedicated to the Madonie for further information). It is possible to organise guided tours of the Nature Reserve and of the surrounding mountains, excursions on horseback, trekking and mountain biking. The historic seaside town of Cefalù (60 km) and its beaches is also highly recommended. To reach Cefalù we recommend the road which passes through Geraci Siculo and Castelbuono.

How to get there

Drive along the motorway Palermo-Catania, take the exit for Tremonzelli and follow the direction Castellana Sicula/Polizzi Generosa/Petralia. Pass the village of Petralia Sottana and go ahead towards Geraci Siculo/Ganci as far as Madonnuzza (Petralia hamlet); after about 1 km turn right towards Alimena/Autostrada Palermo-Catania, drive down on your right and pass through the villages of Fasanò e Pianello, then follow the directions to San Giovanni-Verdi and then to Masseria San Giovanni Sgadari.

Outside there is an historic garden, a wood of oak and conifer trees with plenty of hidden corners in which to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this place and a splendid swimming pool with views of the surrounding hills. Inside there are several communal areas such as the charming old stables. All of the apartments have their own patio, cooking area and air conditioning (except the 'Formaggiera' apartment which remains cool even in the height of summer due to its traditional construction).
