We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. Even though we arrived on last day of September is was still 25-27 degrees, and very warm at night too. The scenery is fantastic; we were right between an iconic mountain and the sea, so the views both ways were breathtaking. The accommodation was small but very sufficcient for a couple, and there was a lot of private outdoor space, including a lovely grilling area and an outdoor shower (obviously there was a very good indoor shower too but is was nice and refreshing to shower outdoors!!!) The property was in immaculate condition with lovely colourcoding and tasteful minimal decor throughout and came with all essential pans, pots fand dishes or cooking and eating, and there was a big fridge&freezer to store food. Our hosts very kindly gave us a starting plate of local delicatessen, and another fresh delivery was hanging off the gate also on one of the mornings- a very nice personal touch! The owners were there for us as we needed advice or help, but never interfered with us at all, even though they live on the next house down the hill. The property is about 30 min walk from Mondello beach. We were offered a car to use but didn't want to chance driving on the wrong side of the road, especially with so many scooters around!
A few things that might come handy for anyone thinking of this location or similar in Mondello: The pedestrian paths are not looked after well- and this is an understatement. So not good for buggies or wheelchairs! The main beach area and the bigger roadside paths were an exeption; so over there you'd be fine. The walk from the property to the beach/old town of Mondello is partially by a roadside with a very skimpy pedestrian path: so I wouldn't advise to walk this at night. There is a taxi rank at start of Mondello beach, although we never needed to use one. The buses go to Palermo very frequently and from the bottom of the hill beside a yellow petrol station, but some busdrivers expected you to have purchased a ticket in advance (while others let you buy ticket on board!) ; they sell these at kiosks. We downloaded an app that translated Italian and English and were able to show in restaurants and shops what we wanted- they really don't speak English at all and no menu's are in English either! The supermarket is close, but not a walking distance (especially as you'd need to carry shopping up the hill!) so we did a big shop when we arrived, and our host dropped and collected us. Food is very fresh and cheaper than in Ireland, and alcohol is very cheap. There is a big shopping centre nearby, with clothes shops etc and a big supermarket, and again we kindly got a lift there and back as we needed to top up on groceries and it was raining that day! Restaurants open weird hours; as we were there at start of October maybe this effected it too but places close during the day (after about 4pm) and re-open after 7/later. Meals out were very basic, so we chose to cook at home a lot (but I love cooking!), but you can eat basic chicken/salad/chips for 7e too! Pizza's were cheap (7e) and tasty, glass ( about four-six times a n Irish pub measure) of whiskey 4e, local wine bottle in restaurant 7e! Just be careful to ask Quanto costa (how much) for anything before choosing; we got charged once 25e for a fish, 2e for 2 pranws, 3.50 for a bowl of iceberg side salad (and it wasn't big or amazing)- and I refused to pay as this wasn't explained before! It was a pity though as this happened in the nearest restaurant to us (4 Passe), and I would otherwise have liked to go back. Litter is the only thing otherwise that bothered us; you can see it around the smaller streets and on the way to Palermo too. Oh, and do reserve 3 hours to get to the airport: it hould only take 30mins, and the airport is tiny in Palermo, but we got very badly stuck on the way home: The police had closed off the motorway due to some protest, and had our host not very cleverly dropped us to a train station (train stops right at the airport, with very direct access!) we would have missed our flight! We got to the airport by train at 20.12, gate closed 20.25, but with running and a lot of 'Scusi' we made it!!

"Just what we wanted........."
Dear Salvo and Rossella, what a lovely home you have! Thank you so much for welcoming us into your home and making our stay in Sicily a very special time to remember. Very quiet location, great views and just a short trip to beach and restaurants. Great base to get out and explore from. We hope to return next year and will definitely want to stay here again.
