Home description
This typical old Sicilian farmhouse has recently been tastefully restored to meet all your modern day needs but at the same time keeping a little of yesteryear in mind. The L shaped building faces out onto the original cobbled pavement that is shaded by the fig tree in summertime and likely covered in snow in winter. The main door leads into the large dining/living area which enjoys a splendid view of the village sitting up on the hilltop. The large windows, the concrete floors and the high ceilings all combine to make the house feel friendly and cosy and the wrought iron wood burner can be used to give extra warmth on cold days. To one side of this central living area there is the kitchen and pantry, the second bedroom and the main bathroom. The stone steps on the other side of the living area lead to the sun-lit main bedroom with its walk-in-wardrobe, bay window and door which leads out to its own patio area where the hazelnuts were once dried in the hot sun. There is also a laundry and WC by this bedroom and the backdoor that leads outside and up to a separate outbuilding with its own terrace and small bathroom, ideal for a little extra privacy. Gorgeous views of both the village and the mountains can be enjoyed from here.

The Sicily region
The beautiful island of Sicily with its breath-taking landscapes and cities offers the visitor a wealth of archaelogy, history and nature that perhaps no other Italian region can boast. Sites attesting Sicily's various colonizations can be found across the island. From the Greek temples and theatres to the magical mosaics left by the Byzantines the visitor will be left asking for more.
Palermo / Polizzi Generosa area
The great thing about spending a holiday in the country near the medieval Polizzi Generosa is that you not only have the pleasure of everything the nature reserve has to offer but there is plenty to do in the surrounding area. The ecosystem of the Madonie Mountains is possibly one of the richest of the entire Mediterranean area. Fauna and wildlife is in abundance so it is ideal for the nature lover or birdwatcher. Through out the year there are many religious and non religious events in the nearby villages. The Good Friday procession of hooded people in Collesano and the festa of the "sfogghiu" cheese cake In Polizzi itself are just two examples. Just a short drive will get you to the charming seaside village of Cefalu with its rocky coastline and fabulous white sandy beaches. Other historical towns such as Ganci, Sperlinga, Petralia, Castelbuono, Isnello and Collesano with its 18 hole golf course are all close by and all worth a visit In winter the nearby Piano Battaglia offers skiing facilities from December through to February and its also ideal for the cross country skier as well, while Piano Cervi is ideal for trekking and hiking in the warmer weather. There are a few farms in the area that offer horse riding and a couple have pools that are open to the public at a reasonable fee. There is an excellent selection of restaurants and pizzerias in the area offering the typical, local cuisine and warm, friendly service.
How to get there
To get to Polizzi you can fly either to Palermo or to Catania airports. Both are about the same distance from Polizzi and both are connected by good freeways. Either way it takes about an hour and a half. The Trapani airport is a bit further, about a two and a half hour drive.

Further details outdoors: The house is surrounded by hazelnut, chestnut and fruit trees while the magnificent oak trees behind the house really make you feel you’re in an enchanted forest. The stone water tank by the outdoor table is perfectly charming and you might even fancy taking a dip in its chilly waters. The fresh water streams which run through the property were once used to turn the stone grinding wheel of the flour mill that partly still stands. Sitting by one of these is perfect if you just feel like having a lazy day with a good book or perhaps you’d rather take a walk along the water canal that winds up through the trees. No matter what, you’re bound to feel at home in the lush, unspoilt Madonie Nature Reserve.

Guestbook
We had a fantastic time travelling around and we enjoyed the harmony of the house so much. We love telling our friends about it and they all love the pottery we bought there. We'll surely be back. Shane, Mark and Sophie. Port Macquarie Australia.
