Apartment | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 4
ABaoaQu is at the third floor of a historical building. The house was built in 1516 and although it got renovated several times, it kept its structure. It is located in the heart of the historical centre of the city and several main sightseeing attractions are in walking distance, such as Piazza Pretoria, Chiesa di Santa Caterina, Chiesa di San Cataldo, Chiesa della Martorana, Cathedral and Palazzo dei Normanni, Teatro Massimo, Piazza Marina, and Teatro Politeama. ABaoaQu house is more than just an accommodation or a sleeping place. The idea is not to offer just an accommodation, one more, without character but a destination of peace and harmony, a place full of soul and personality. The focus of aBaoaQu is to create an atmosphere of emotional connection between the place and the guests. One, where the guest feels at home, at ease; where one can relax after a busy day in the city or after a day at the beach or a hike in the nearby natural parks. A place that gives you the feeling to be one with yourself. To that end, a local Sicilian artist was appointed to define the lay-out of the apartment, the interior and its decoration. Every single object has its own story, whether it's a piece of wood, a cupboard or a table. To dye the walls only natural colours were used, found and excavated by hand on one of the Mediterranean islands. Most items used for the decoration are either second hand objects which were carefully renovated or come from far away, such as Africa, Middle East, India or Central America. The blend of carefully chosen styles gives an ethnic touch to the apartment and since there are several art pieces and paintings exposed it's kind of an ethno-art house. Location and surroundings The train station is about 10' by foot. The famous, lively street markets of Palermo such as Vucciria, Ballar' and Capo are very close. The house and its surroundings, being off the main traffic roads, are calm and quiet. aBaoaQu is located at Piazzetta delle Vergini which is about 100m from the famous 'Quattro Canti'. The aBaoaQu apartment aBaoaQu has undergone two renovations, the last one in 2009. For the renovations only organic and / or non-toxic materials were used respecting both planet Earth and the health of the visitors. The walls were dyed with natural colours, gently extracted from the Mediterranean islands. The apartment surface is of roughly 100m2 and was entirely covered - bathroom and kitchen included - with a special, certified wood. It gives to the flat a very elegant and natural look. The many windows and three balconies fill the flat with natural light, the more than 4m height ceiling increases the feeling of light- and vastness. The entrance is common with another small flat on the upper floor, but it's independent as it is closed by an entrance door, all the rooms are communicating, no doors inside. The flat is composed of one bedroom, a big living room, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom and a laundry corner. In the day-to-day running of the house environmentally friendly cleaning products are used, such as energy efficient light bulbs, organic detergents and the wood stove for the heating. The living room With its 50m2 the living room is the largest room of the apartment. The combination of the magnificent wooden floor and the natural colours used for the walls create a unique charm and atmosphere. One feels immediately at ease and at welcome. Plants, wonderful paintings and several ethno art pieces give a very special touch to the flat. For colder days a wood stove can be used. The couch can be converted into a very large, comfortable double bed. An oval table can easily accommodate six people. Adjacent to the living room is the kitchen and the bed room. There is a stereo and several books about Sicily and Palermo at disposal. The bedroom The bedroom consists of two beds, a cupboard and a little desk. The beds are new and of superior quality, they can either be separated or kept together. A large window with a balcony assures natural light. As in the other rooms the floor is made out of wood. Sheets are provided. The bathroom The 20m2 large bathroom is equipped with a tub, shower, bidet, toilet, a sink with a shelf as well as with rotatable furniture with a mirror. The bath being completely renovated, Sicilian majolica was put around the tub and the wall decorated with a gentle hand painting. Shells and minerals evidence the love for the sea. The overall atmosphere is very relaxing, also because of the candles. Towels and hairdryer are provided. The kitchen The kitchen is fully equipped, has a large working area, a gas kitchen with oven, and a new, large refrigerator with an integrated freezer. Most commonly used utensils and instruments as well as a small stock of spices, oil, sugar, salt, coffee, etc. are available too. The Sicily region
Sicily, right in the heart of the Mediterranean sea, has a cultural heritage unsurpassed by any other holiday destination. It's array of historical rulers have provided the island with unique architecture, art and traditions. The coastline is dramatic and beautiful (like the people) and the towns are a bustling hubbub of activities.
In the centre of the island sits the majestic Mt Etna, a still active volcano. A trip to the top is a must.
Being in Italy, and having such a rich history, Sicily has a wonderful selection of food & drink. The various cultures and natural local produce combine to make dishes that can be found nowhere else in the world.
Streets and alleys of Palermo:
can't get enough of walking in Palermo. Staring at the varied architecture, listening to the clips of conversations (just the tone of them), smiling back to curious and friendly faces' and suddenly ' a flash of green wings and a scream of a parrot!
just dive into a real dealing and get ready for making a fool of yourself ' and don't get it so seriously if you put your fingers to the wrong places and get some strict looks from the market salesmen.
in Piazzetta Porta Reale (Via Lincoln): very friendly staff and 10+ Sicilian style 'snacks' like arancinos and pepitos etc.
