"Beach Retreat Nightmare"

An all around bad experience from start to finish. When we arrived no one was there to meet us as promised. We drove around to find the manager without success and finally to access the Beach Retreat … More

It is indeed a great shame that some things haven't gone well on these peoples trip, but I stand behind all our local staff in saying they have done their very best, but here in Africa sometimes the games gets away from you. We just have a few holiday homes we rent out, we are not an expensive hotel with highly trained staff, but with over 200 bed nights in this little budget cottage this year alone, we have had only this one complaint.
We all felt very bad at this robbery incident and our clients honey moon, it's a very rare occurrence ( 2 times in 10 years) and we all did our utmost to help and comfort them, but later they became more stressed and paranoid about staying longer the cottage. In the morning they were fine but later on in the day they wanted to leave, and our staff was far away on their farm and in Stonetown and tried their best to get back and help them on their way, unfortunately this wasn't fast enough resulting in much frustration of the clients who decided to leave the house unlocked! Resulting in a second loss of our $200 Wi-Fi equipment!
Our manager finally travelled to Nungwi to collect our telephone and the door lock and return their house deposit to them, more time and costs on our side
The clients requested a refund for the remaining days of the holidays that they had booked in the cottage, to which officially they had no claim too, as they left of their own accord, but as I mentioned we felt sorry for them and I agreed to do so, only with an agreed reduction 50% of the cost ($100) for the lost Wi-Fi unit. I also promised to do this as soon as I had time as I had indeed just left on my own travels to Holland, Uk and Japan.
Anyway I made the payment with more cost o my side, as these clients only had a strange bank account without BIC and IBAN numbers they encored heavy bank charges to which they are dissatisfied and hence this review. We also lost USD. 50 on receiving the original funds, but we let that ride.
I would just like to add again, we are all sorry that this isolated small event has spoiled their holidays to which we have done our best to help make it better.
PS. the wine was a gift from us in the first place, if you check you records you only paid for a superior package

"Big Dissapointment"

We stayed at the Secret Garden villa for three nights in June 2011. It wasn't as clean as expected as the kitchen and bedrooms only seemed to be cleaned on the surface. The cutlery, crockery and … More

I have written to you personally to ask you to remove these untrue comments, to which you haven't even answered. This house is clean and you had a daily cleaner and a house manager to which you never mentioned one point of dissatisfaction until you had left the house and choose to voice your false opinion here!
The house also had brand new mattresses that you were the first ever to sleep on them we have no animals and certainly no flees, it was probably mosquito bites!
The Honesty bar and swimming pool area is for your free use as an extra felicity and no one ever bartends and honesty bar! I believe it's normal and polite behaviour to contact the staff on location when having any problems or at least to e-mail of call me first, if you were so unhappy I would have been glad to assist.

"Secret garden - a big disapointment"

We stayed in Secret garden during christmas time, six adults and three small children. We booked our stay six months earlier and we were very excited about Secret garden. It seemed like a quite luxuri… More

I think this is a great shame that these clients have chosen to voice their negative views on this site without first at least e-mailing me. To put my side of the situation The clients were correct in their initial disappointment in the villas state when they arrived, it had not been cleaned properly, the linen was not in the house and the welcomes package, new towels and sun bed mattresses' had been forgotten, not a good start by any means, and all this on Christmas eve! I think in retrospect it didn't help that the clients woke me up at my house at 8am on Christmas morning with a list of these aforementioned complaints, and this after a very heavy celebration the evening before. I believe the clients were offended when I reacted a little sharply to their onset of complaints and in my condition at that time of the morning I didn't deal with the matter professionally!!! Still after a couple of aspirins I and our staff set about their list and put everything in order within a few hours. I later fully apologized for my earlier less amicable behavior and everyone was happy again. The clients stayed for a week in the house without further complain they were so quite they didn't even mention that they were planning to leave the house early and did so without a word!!! The clients have never communicated to me or my staff ever again nor have they ever asked for any reimbursement.
I think the house is described properly and is of good budget value for a large group such as these clients only USD.190 ,- for 5 bedrooms, I think works out at USD20 p.p.p.n in high season. I would like to sate further that no one has ever walked out on us before and we have had no complaints before or since these clients have stayed with us.
Again I am sorry to hear this was disappointing for them, we had made some mistakes which we apologized for and rectified within no time.
