Cottage | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 10
Oakrest is one of a selection of luxury well equipped cottages set in 42 acres of woodland and pasture with spectacular views across open countryside all the way to Dartmoor. Newbarn Farm is within a beautiful valley close to Paignton, Totnes and Torquay, which borders the South Hams area of South Devon, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
One of three newly renovated cottages (this year), Oakrest is extremely well furnished, offering comfort of an exceptional high standard. Namely two cottages joined together by an interconnecting first floor double bedroom, Oakrest can accommodate up to 12 people. There are four double bedrooms (three of which can be converted into twin rooms if so wished), and the option of converting the smaller lounge into a double bedroom (use of a sofa bed). An extra two people can be put up on z-beds. Surprisingly there are two bathrooms (both with bath/showers) and two downstair's shower rooms - maybe excessive - but luxury! Resident guests enjoy reduced fees for daily/weekly fishing on the property's 6 coarse fishing lakes. All of our guests have some complimentary passes for the pool & gym to use throughout their stay at the nearby leisure complex.- equipped with modern gym, sauna, steam room and indoor swimming pool.
Guests are free to roam over the land and through the woods, taking in the abundance of wildlife - buzzards, herons, mallards and the odd cormorant are daily visitors. For dusk walkers, sightings of the resident badgers and rabbits are not uncommon.
A firm favourite with children of all ages are our outdoor play areas, one sporting an adult-sized trampoline with safety net, swings, slide and wooden climbing wall, the other play area has badminton, volley ball, cricket practice, golf practice, football, swing ball, kites, frisbees and plenty more!

The West Country region
South Devon is a popular holiday destination, boasting some of the highest temperatures during the summer months in England. Paignton is part of an area encompassing Torquay and Brixham - a beautiful unspoilt fishing harbour town, commonly known as the English Rivera. Oldway Mansion in the heart of Paignton was once the home of the Singer family, founders of the famous Sewing Machine. Agatha Christie was born and bred in Torquay, The Princess Theatre on the sea front often shows productions written by this legend.
Three miles from Oakrest is the lovely town of Totnes which has a fabulous market every Friday in the heart of the town - plenty of local produce, a lot of organic, very orginal foods and some marvellous interesting artefacts! During the summer months, Elizabethan dress is almost compulsory with the locals going about their everyday business on a Tuesday. The town is definitely worth a visit - plenty of great eating places and some great Tea rooms with irresistible home made cakes!
The English Riviera boasts 22 miles of coastal paths and countless sandy beaches, the nearest is Goodrington Sands but Blackpool Sands is definitely worth a visit - you may have to pay to park in the car park but once it's full no one else is allowed onto this golden beach, therefore never crowded and just fabulous really clean facilities.
During the months of June, July and August there are countless fetes, fairs, festivals, carnivals - literally something happening every week.
Oakrest is probably in one of the best locations for exploring South Devon. Few places in the world can genuinely offer you such a wide range of ways to spend your time. Relaxing on the beach, afternoons browsing through designer shops or visiting fascinating museums.
If you have the energy, there is a vast selection of sporting activities to choose from, both on the water and off the water, plus hundreds of place to visit within easy reach and a diary packed with events and festivals. For those looking to spread their wings there are historic towns, expansive morrs, picture-postcard villages and heritage-rich cities close by, just waiting to be discovered.
Just a few places to visit:
Quaywest Water Park
Torbay Golf Centre
Junior Quad Bike Centre
Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary & Buckfast Butterflies
Even the supermarket is only 1.5 miles away!
