Cottage | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 2
Poachers is a warm, comfortable, apartment styled cottage within the large old farmhouse with two foot stone walls and wonderful views of the property's lakes at the front and Dartmoor to the rear. Beautifully decorated throughout with well co-ordinated furnishings, Poachers offers a gem of peace and tranquillity. Enjoying the most spectacular panoramic views of Dartmoor, and surrounding South Hams rolling countryside (a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), and yet within easy reach of all town amenities.
Although set in a beautiful rural location, a heavenly oasis of 42 acres of woodland and pasture, reached by a half mile private track, local amenities are only 2 miles away and a 15th Century Old Devon Longhouse serving good pub food is just 0.5 miles away - a few minutes walk away from the members only leisure centre featuring indoor heated swimming pool, learner pool, sauna, steam room and gym. All of our guests have some complimentary passes for the pool & gym to use throughout their stay.
Guests are free to roam over the land and through the woods, taking in the abundance of wildlife - buzzards, herons, mallards and the odd cormorant are daily visitors. For dusk walkers, sightings of the resident badgers, foxes and rabbits are not uncommon.

The West Country region
South Devon is a popular holiday destination, boasting some of the highest temperatures during the summer months in England. Paignton is part of an area encompassing Torquay and Brixham - a beautiful unspoilt fishing harbour town, commonly known as the English Rivera. Oldway Mansion in the heart of Paignton was once the home of the Singer family, founders of the famous Sewing Machine. Agatha Christie was born and bred in Torquay, The Princess Theatre on the sea front often shows productions written by this legend.
Three miles from Poachers is the lovely town of Totnes which has a fabulous market every Friday in the heart of the town - plenty of local produce, a lot of organic, very original foods and some marvellous interesting artefacts! During the summer months, Elizabethan dress is almost compulsory with the locals going about their everyday business on a Tuesday. The town is definitely worth a visit - plenty of great eating places and some great Tea rooms with irresistible home made cakes!
The English Riviera boasts 22 miles of coastal paths and countless sandy beaches, the nearest is Goodrington Sands but Blackpool Sands is definitely worth a visit - you may have to pay to park in the car park but once it's full no one else is allowed onto this golden beach, therefore never crowded and just fabulous really clean facilities.
During the months of June, July and August there are countless fetes, fairs, festivals, carnivals - literally something happening every week.
Poachers is probably in one of the best locations for exploring South Devon. Few places in the world can genuinely offer you such a wide range of ways to spend your time. Relaxing on the beach, afternoons browsing through designer shops or visiting fascinating museums.
If you have the energy, there is a vast selection of sporting activities to choose from, both on the water and off the water, plus hundreds of place to visit within easy reach and a diary packed with events and festivals. For those looking to spread their wings there are historic towns, expansive moors, picture-postcard villages and heritage-rich cities close by, just waiting to be discovered.
Just a few places to visit:

Torbay Golf Centre
Junior Quad Bike Centre
