About this location
The English Riviera region
Bordered by Somerset, Dorset and the Duchy County of Cornwall, Devon is England's third largest county with nearly 7,000 sq. kilometres of land.
Devon contains the two natural parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor, the coastal towns and seaside resorts of two coast lines, picturesque villages with their thatched cottages and charming inns, the industrial centres and a variety of ancient history. There is a lot to see and learn within the beautiful county of Devon.
Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway - The holiday line, with steam trains running for 7 miles in Great Western tradition from Paignton along the spectacular Torbay coast to Churston and on through the wooded slopes bordering the Dart estuary to Kingswear.
Paignton Zoo Environmental Park - Hundreds of animals and plants to be seen in one of England's biggest zoos.
Paignton harbour is still used by working shell fishermen and also offers diving, angling, pleasure trips and ferries to both Torquay and Brixham.
Close to Beaches, shops, restaurants/ cafes, waterpark, multiplex cinema, pitch and putt course and coastal walk, to town centre shops and the steam train service to Kingswear and Dartmouth.
Other local attractions include, Oldway Mansion, Compton Castle and the Waterpark at Goodrington Sands. In nearby Torquay attractions include Cockington Village, Kents Cavern, Babbacombe Model Village and Living Coasts coastal zoo.
Dartmoor National Park is only 12 Miles away.
Paignton has the the safest and sandiest beaches in the bay...
Linking each of the English Riviera's beaches is the South West Coast Path. Stretching from the south side of Brixham to Maidencombe, this walk around the Bay offers excellent and varied walking with spectacular sea views.
Paignton is well known for its beaches, with long gently sloping sandy beaches, Paignton, Goodrington and Broadsands are ideal for family bathing and on the more fierce days of Easterly gales, great for surfers.

"Don't park your car in the lane"
Chantry Cottage beautiful and well equipped. Downside vandalism to car on 3 nights while it was parked in the adjacent lane. We sent a message to the owner of the property thanking her for our stay an… More
I wasn't aware you had left me a message about your car, as I have stated before, the road is very narrow and a cut through that people take on the way to town. The police are well aware of people parking inappropriately and I have reported this many times. There is space on the grass outside the cottage, but as no one is aware who owns it, it is on a first come first serve basis. I apologise for the actions of a few people who damage cars vindictively, and I urge anyone that it happens to, to report it to the police, cars get damaged by large vehicles trying to get up the lane as they have to go up it to turn around, it is very awkward and not built for modern vehicles as it is an ancient wall that surrounds a one track road. As it is unrestricted, lots of non residents try to park there as there are only a few houses on the street. again, I'm sorry this has happened but anything that happens outside of the cottage is beyond my control.

"Lovely Cottage, well placed in Paignton"
We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children (aged 14, 11 and 6). Building on the reviews from others, we felt this would be a good place to stay during the Easter Holidays and, happily, this proved to be the case.
We were aware that the size of the cottage would make it a fairly tight fit for us but the snug, comfortable surroundings proved very suitable, particularly in that very cold and sadly sometimes wet Spring in 2013. In general, one might say that 4 people (there are two double beds) is the right number here, but we had no complaints.
We travelled to Paignton by train. Chantry Cottage is an easy 15 minute walk from the station and there are frequent buses leaving from nearby which will take you along the coast. There are plenty of things to do in the Torbay area and we particularly enjoyed Paignton Zoo, the steam railway and Dartmouth.
All in all, a handy place to stay in a lovely area, made better if the weather is on your side!
