'Villa Val de Rosa' is a detached villa set in mature garden grounds, providing ideal accommodation for a large family or a mix of up to 8 adult guests (additionally there is a cot available for an infant). It is situated in the semi-rural village of Pago del Humo, which is only a ten-minute drive from the amazing 8 kilometre stretch of golden sands at La Barrosa beach and 30 minutes from the captivating historic city of Cadiz. It is an ideal centre from which to tour western Andalusia, with many white hilltop villages within easy reach, and only 40 minutes from Jerez, the sherry capital of Spain. Seville, the capital of Andalucia, with its astonishing cathedral, romantic river front, and lush parks and gardens, can be reached by car, train or bus in under two hours.

Val de Rosa's large garden has secure off-road parking for up to 4 cars, and boasts a 9 x 4.5 metre swimming pool. The lawn provides an area for kids to kick a ball around, and there is a variety of planted areas, ranging from cacti to oleander with some exotic species in between, two fountains, and a small fish-pond. The villa is beautifully furnished in a style that combines the contemporary and traditional, with a nod to Moroccan influences. The main bedroom has air conditioning and there is a log-burning stove in the living rooms for those cooler evenings in the winter months.

All our guests receive a copy of our complimentary booklet which gives a comprehensive guide to the area's beaches, bars/restaurants and other attractions as well as detailed instructions to help holidaymakers to make the most of facilities provided.

The Andalucia region

The town of Chiclana de la Frontera is an ideal location for exploring the cities of in the provinces of Cadiz and Seville: Cadiz itself (30 mins), Jerez (40 mins) and Seville, the capital of Andalusia (90 mins). Each has its unique attractions – and we provide all our guests with their own personal copy of a comprehensive guide containing our suggestions for places to visit, restaurants to eat at, etc. The ancient walled city of Cadiz, one of the oldest in south-western Europe, sits on a peninsular, almost completely surrounded by water. Apart from the perimeter road, it is virtually traffic-free and you can lose yourself exploring the maze of narrow streets and spacious plazas. The cathedral, a gem in its own right, provides the focal point, with a magnificent view over the city from one of its towers.

Also within easy reach for a day out, are a number of “white villages”. These hilltop towns, with their network of winding alleyways, take the visitor back to a more traditional, slower paced village life. Again, each has its own special characteristics – Medina Sidonia, the nearest, can be seen from the streets of Pago del Humo, whilst Arcos, perched on a clifftop beyond Jerez has a main square that teeters on the edge of a precipice. Only 20 minutes by car, Vejer is the jewel in the crown of Cadiz Province, with many ancient sites to visit, not to mention a large variety of restaurants and tapas bars.

If you enjoy country walks, don't be put off by the fact that much of the surrounding countryside seem to be private. There are a number of designated walking routes of varying lengths, both locally, around Vejer, and in the mountains of the Sierra de Grazalema, all accessible in the course of a day's visit. Again, there are details in our guidebook.

Pago Del Humo

Chiclana de la Frontera is a working Spanish town with a population of 82,000, not especially geared for tourism, which gives it an authentic feel, but nevertheless it has its own attractions – a number of historic buildings – a museum of bullfighting, and a small civic theatre with a basement gallery that has an ever changing programme of exhibitions. The town is naturally well served restaurants offering all types of food, as well as bars where you can enjoy tapas with drinks at any time of day.

Not far from Chiclana, and within 10 minutes drive of Pago del Humo, La Barrosa Beach is the coastal resort of Chiclana, and a magnet for Spanish visitors in the month of August. The rest of the year, the beach of clean, soft golden sand, which extends all of 8 km southwards to Roche, is practically deserted. Along its length there are some beachside bars to be found – chiringuitos – which disappear completely in the winter months.

Cyclists can hire bikes from one of the hotels in Novo Sancti Petri. Walkers can find some marked paths that go out from Chiclana towards Los Naverros and Medina Sidonia. There are also walks in Chiclana Park – an area of umbrella pines, criss-crossed by wide paths, and with exercise apparatus along the way. One such path leads to a punto magico – a viewpoint offering a panorama over Chiclana.

For golfers, there are a number of options. 2 courses at Novo Sancti Petri, designed by Seve Ballesteros – and one at San Andres – all at ten minutes' drive from Pago. Further afield, you can choose from Montecastillo near Jerez, Montenmedio just south of Vejer, or Vistahermosa on the northern outskirts of El Puerto de Santa Maria.
