The Petrongonas Castle in Mani
from £58 /night help
Castle | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 8
An authentic, fully furnished, recently renovated castle with great views.
Around 2 centuries ago, our grandparents decided to build a castle for their winter stays and to protect themselves from enemies, from the war. On the ground floor you can find the olive press that the residents had in order to make their olive oil.
Now and years later the stone house is ready to invite you in and enjoy a great holiday. The renovation took into consideration the traditional character of the castle keeping it unspoiled, while adding some modern touches. The materials used are mainly the local stone and wood. The castle is fully equipped with electrical appliances.
In addition to 1 double and 3 single beds, 3 more sofa beds are provided in the living room for comfortable sleep.
It is a great place to start from in order to explore the unique beauties of authentic Greece all around the year Appropriate both in the cool and cosy greek winter till the hot summer.
There is not actually a better period to visit, since every session has something unique to provide.
Staying in a castle like this will definitely make you feel like living centuries ago. You are given the opportunity to spend time traveling around Peloponnese, from the famous Sparta, land of Leonidas and the brave 300, to cape Matapa, where the gates of Ades were supposed to be.
Also, you are able to travel around the coasts of Peloponnese and enjoy the famous Greek sun and sky on beaches like Gerolimenas. Gerolimenas is, also, a great place to taste traditional Greek food and maybe have a drink before you come back to the castle and relax with a glass of wine next to the fireplace.
Come to us to explore the unspoiled nature of Greece and relax, swim, cycle, breath some fresh air or do some shopping around the south of Greece!

"Friendly, cosy, clean, authentic castle!"
We spent a week in Petrongonas Castle in August 2013 and had a wonderful holiday far away from the tourist scene!
The castle has plenty of space, is tastefully furnished and decorated with emphasis on cosy and authentic. The well stocked modern kitchen has all the right facilities which made us feel like it was our home for the duration. We loved the veranda and our teenagers loved biking in the village and meeting new friends at the local basketball court.
The castle was immaculately made up for us, absolutely spotless and the hospitality of the hosts was heartwarming. One bedroom was air conditioned and one was naturally shielded from the elements. Every issue was promptly addressed.
Located in Pagkia, a small village in Mani with traditional houses surrounded by olive groves, it makes a great starting point to visit plenty of beaches, either popular or off the beaten path, the Diros Caves and Cape Tainaron.
We definitely recommend this place!

"More than paradise, Mani is something else!"
I didn't imagine such a lovely place. These were my first hollidays outside France with my children, and they ask me when we were on the ferry back to Italy and then France, when we are back to the castle of Petra and Vassili? There are no world to describe what you feel when you are there. Enjoy the silence, the stars and everything around in Mani!
