About the home

Gorgeous self-catering cottage - a beach lover's paradise!

10 minutes walk from lovely golden sands of Porthcothan Bay.

Wide choice of fantastic surfing beaches (Treyarnon, Constantine, Booby’s, Mother Ivey’s, Harlyn, Trevone, Watergate) all within 10 minute drive.

Famous fishing village of Padstow only 5 miles away. Trevose golf club, with 18 and 9 hole links courses, swimming pool, and tennis courts, just up the road.

Large selection of pubs and restaurants nearby. Camp site shop, children‘s play park, and bar, serving evening meals, across road.

Tastefully refurbished traditional Cornish farm worker’s cottage, with lots of open beams on working sheep farm. ‘Home from home’ comfort.

Please note the property is semi-detached - but its my lovely in-laws so you won't be disturbed by rowdy parties!
2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom (sleeping 6 people). Z-bed and cot available by arrangement. Bathroom with double ended bath, and hand held shower, plus separate shower room. Both with loo/sink.

Fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher; oak dining room; sitting room with TV/DVD. Large garden with barbecue area and patio. Parking for one or two cars (off road). Very steep stairs. Small children must be supervised. Bed linen is provided, but please bring your own towels/tea-towels.
Pets by arrangement but strictly NOT allowed upstairs.

Cleaning/breakages deposit of £100 - fully returnable.

Downstairs you will find a sitting room with comfy sofas, a TV & DVD, a wet room with shower/loo/sink, a utility room with washing machine & tumble drier, an oak fitted dining room, and a kitchen boasting the usual mod cons such as a dishwasher & microwave. The kitchen leads onto the large patio outside. The floor is flag stone in the kitchen and dining room, so it is perfect for sandy feet or dogs after a hard day at the beach. WOOD BURNING STOVE for cosy nights in!

Upstairs consists of 3 comfortable bedrooms (2 doubles,, and 1 twin). There is plenty of room in the twin room for a z-bed if you wish to squeeze in another child. There is also a family bathroom with double-ended bath, and hand held shower over the bath. It is carpeted throughout, so no dogs upstairs please. High pitched ceiling with open beams give an airy spacious atmosphere.

Further details outdoors:
Large garden with patio area, barbecue, and plenty of lawn. Garden table and chairs for outside dining. Surrounded by Cornish stone hedging, and has a gate, so ideal for dogs and children.

Don't forget that the house is semi-detached (with my in-laws next door!), but the garden is entirely yours, as they have their own around the side.

Small but lovely double bedroom

The West Country / Cornwall region

Cornwall is a fantastic county. There are fabulous beaches, and beautiful country side in plentiful supply. It boasts wonderful gardens including the Eden Project, the lost gardens of Heligan, and many national trust gardens like Glendurgan or Trebah.

It is well set up for tourists offering many great days out at attractions such as Newquay Zoo, and Newquay Aquarium, Paradise Park at Hayle, Lappa Valley railway, Crealy Adventure Park, and Dairy Land. Foodies will be delighted - we have Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant at Padstow, Jamie Olivers 15 at Watergate Bay, and Michelin starred Nathan Outlaw at Rock.

Art lovers will find all they love at St Ives. The brilliant Maritime museum is at Falmouth.There is an awesome outside theatre built into the cliff side at Porthcurno. Plus we have the legendary Land's End. The list is endless, but hopefully that gives you a flavour!

The Padstow / Porthcothan Bay area

The surrounding area is simply fantastic, with so much to do. There is surfing/fishing/horse riding/golf on your doorstep, and the beaches are amongst the best in the world. Boat trips, sailing and water ski-ing available from Padstow or across the Camel Estuary in Rock.

Brilliant cycling along the Camel trail which starts in Padstow, and continues on to Wadebridge and Bodmin. Gastronomers will be delighted - Rick Stein’s Seafood restaurant, and Jamie Oliver’s 15 are nearby. Stunning walks along the coastal path at the end of our garden - to Bedruthan steps to the south, or Trevose Head to the north. Newquay airport only 15 minutes away.

There are many ways to get to Porthcothan but we’ve written down the route we find easiest to drive in peak season.

SAT NAV USERS: Our post code is PL28 8PN, but beware...some sat navs are not aware of the new A30 dual carriage way after Bodmin, and will therefore take you on a very time consuming detour. Others suggest you come off the A30 far too early on the Camelford road, which also takes ages.

So we would suggest:
Take A30 as far as the Highgate Hill junction, where you turn right to take the A39 towards St Columb Major/ Wadebridge. Continue along the A39 until you reach the Winnards Perch roundabout. Turn left here onto the B3274 road to Padstow. After 2 miles take the 2nd left (signposted St Merryn). Go straight on at the next crossroads. Before St Merryn, follow the signs for Porthcothan Bay (taking a left at the large bend just past the ‘holiday villages’, and left again at the next t-junction). After approx 2 miles (on the B3276 towards Newquay) turn right at the sign for Carnevas Farm Holiday Park (opposite the Tredrea Inn). If you get to the beach at Porthcothan, you’ve gone too far!

We are 1/2 mile up this road - the Linney and the Granary are on the right hand side, next door to the Carnevas Holiday park office; Crigg Cottage is opposite the campsite entrance.
Closest ferry port: Plymouth approx 1 1/2 hour drive
Closest airport Newquay: 15 minute drive
Closest train station: Bodmin approx 40 minute drive

I just wanted to drop you a quick line to say how much we all enjoyed our stay at Crigg cottage last week and for the very thoughtful cream team that greeted us on our arrival.  We enjoyed it in the garden with the sun shining, it could not have been a better start to the week!  The cottage was lovely and perfectly suited to our needs. We were very fortunate with the weather and made the most of visiting the local beaches.
 
We would love to come and stay again and I hope that we will have the opportunity next summer.
