Dating back to 1798 Courtenay House started life as a grain store. Over the years it has undergone various changes and is now a wonderful holiday home providing a little oasis in Old Padstow town. Steeped in character but with a mixture of old and new Courtenay House has so much on offer to make your holiday something special. Courtenay House is in Barry's Lane PL28 8AU and is the first road inside of the Old Town which has no restaurants or bars - totally residential. You are therefore situated as close to everything as possible but in a non busy quiet lane.

Modern kitchen with shaker style units and Belfast sink, Laura Ashley sofas in the sitting room with French windows opening to a delightful decked balcony area. Traditional dining room with large mahogany table, to sit 8, enough space to invite friends around for supper or a takeaway.

After a day out on the beach the peaceful south west facing garden is a delightful place to sit and relax. Watch the sun go down with your favourite tipple or dine 'al fresco' and have a BBQ. A unique setting for children and adults alike to wind down in total privacy.

The West Country region

Padstow is in the centre of the North Cornwall Coast and is a fantastic base for touring the whole of Cornwall The Eden Project, Newquay, St Ives (Tate Gallery), Fowey, Lands End, Truro etc. The coast can be windy and surfing (board and kite) is very popular. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty with visitors returning each year to enjoy the scenery and the rich heritage of Cornwall. There are many art galleries as artists have historically settled here to paint the rugged coastline, picturesque villages and take advantage of the unique quality of light in their work.

There are enchanting sandy beaches and coves aplenty.

Fishing, golfing, riding, cycling, walking, sea canoeing, surfing, kite surfing, sea trips, rock climbing or simply just lazing on the beach - something for everyone!


Padstow is perhaps best known as the home of Rick Stein and his seafood restaurant - one of Britain's best loved TV chefs. There are many other fabulous places to eat in Padstow from Michelin rated restaurants ( Paul Ainsworth's No. 6 and Nathan Outlaw over at Rock) to quality pub fare, pasty shops and fish and chips.. (Booking before you come is advisable for fine dining). Padstow is a characterful beautiful historic fishing village that boasts unique shops, friendly pubs and a busy, fun atmosphere. The long sandy beaches are a short walk out of the town - so no need to do anything but enjoy this wonderful place.

Come on Mayday and enjoy the Obby Hos fun - But expect to be jostled as part of the immense crowd that attends this event every year.

Walking along the coastal path - or down the Camel trail. Cycling is also a fun day out down the camel trail which is a disused railway line (nice and flat) which snakes alongside the Camel river to Wadebridge and on to Bodmin.

Fishing and leisure trips from the harbour and a ferry over to Rock.
