Lovely DOG-FRIENDLY self-catering converted barn set in an 'area of outstanding natural beauty' on our own working farm. Stylish and comfortable. Right on the coast in wonderful North Cornwall with our local town the famous PADSTOW.
WALKERS! We are RIGHT ON the South West Coastal Path. A walkers paradise! Head west for the breathtaking BEDRUTHAN STEPS, or east for the awe inspiring TREVOSE HEAD: the views are incredible. We can drop you off in our car, along with your dog, so you can do long walks back to base. Free of charge!
GOLFERS! Did you know that we are only a mile from TREVOSE GOLF CLUB? It has 18 and 9 hole links courses. The views over Constantine and Booby's bays are jaw-dropping. What a beautiful place to play golf.
BEACH LOVERS! There are so many golden sandy beaches to choose from, and they are all DOG-FRIENDLY. Our local beach PORTHCOTHAN Bay is an 8 minute walk. It has a fabulous natural swimming pool at low-tide. Whether you love to swim, surf, go rock-pooling, build sandcastles or just breath in the ozone, this is the place to be.
BIRDWATCHERS! There is some great birdwatching to be had along the Camel trail. But did you know, we have the rare Corn Bunting on our land? Lucky us!
CYCLISTS! Have you heard about the CAMEL TRAIL? It runs all the way from Padstow to Bodmin Moor via Wadebridge. Easy bike hire at the trail. Absolutely astounding scenery: the stretch that runs alongside the estuary faces the golden sands of Rock. The inland stretch is so tranquil with water courses a plenty. Why not drop in at Camel Valley Vineyard en route for a wine tasting.
GASTRONOMERS! You are about to enter foodie heaven. Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant is in Padstow, as is Paul Ainsworth's (trained by Gordon Ramsay) No 6. Across the Camel estuary in Rock (a lovely water taxi ride away!) is Nathan Outlaw with his 2 Michelin stars. Or just down the coast at Watergate Bay is Jamie Oliver's 15. Treat yourself to some seriously good wining and dining! And talking of wine - don't miss the WINE TASTING at Camel Valley Vineyard - the bubbley is out of this world!
DOGS! We love you and you are warmly welcomed. You can walk wherever you wish on our land, you'll love the coast path and the beach, and the views are incredible. There is a nice big garden for you to enjoy too - all enclosed. Hopefully you have trained your owners to 'scoop the poop', and keep you on a lead when our silly sheep are near. We trust you don't mind staying downstairs and off the furniture. Some funny people don't love dogs as much as we do, and some are allergic you see.
LITTLE PEOPLE! We have 3 of our own, and remember well the challenges of travelling with 3 under five year olds...Tell Mummy not to worry. We have cots/ highchairs/ changemats/ bathseats all free of charge. We also have a nice big garden that is fully enclosed. We are on a road but it is a quiet single lane country road with a 30mph limit.
THE BARN!
The Granary is a converted barn now tastefully furnished and decorated to a good standard. Pretty fabrics and soft colours will all add to your relaxation.
Upstairs there is a large double bedroom with huge french windows looking out to the fields beyond. This room is en-suite with a shower, WC, and basin. There are also 2 twin bedrooms, and a family bathroom with bath, separate shower, WC and basin. Ceilings are open-pitched, high and beamed giving an airy tranquil feel. Our beds are so comfortable that past visitors have gone home and bought the same bed!
Downstairs is a large open plan living room with dining area. There is also a spacious kitchen with the usual mod cons, washing machine and microwave. There are french windows leading out onto a patio with outdoor seating. This patio is separated by a low wall from an adjacent shared courtyard for 2 neighbouring barns. A nice place for catching the late afternoon sun after a hard day at the beach!
The Granary and Linney barn conversions share an open plan front garden, with a large grassy area, and off-road parking. Great for large communal BBQs.
When there are waves, you can hear the ocean.

There are many ways to get to Porthcothan but we’ve written down the route we find easiest to drive in peak season.
SAT NAV USERS: Our post code is PL28 8PN, but beware...some sat navs are not aware of the new A30 dual carriage way after Bodmin, and will therefore take you on a very time consuming detour. Others suggest you come off the A30 far too early on the Camelford road, which also takes ages.
So we would suggest:
Take A30 as far as the Highgate Hill junction, where you turn right to take the A39 towards St Columb Major/ Wadebridge. Continue along the A39 until you reach the Winnards Perch roundabout. Turn left here onto the B3274 road to Padstow. After 2 miles take the 2nd left (signposted St Merryn). Go straight on at the next crossroads. Before St Merryn, follow the signs for Porthcothan Bay (taking a left at the large bend just past the ‘holiday villages’, and left again at the next t-junction). After approx 2 miles (on the B3276 towards Newquay) turn right at the sign for Carnevas Farm Holiday Park (opposite the Tredrea Inn). If you get to the beach at Porthcothan, you’ve gone too far!
We are 1/2 mile up this road - the Linney and the Granary are on the right hand side, next door to the Carnevas Holiday park office; Crigg Cottage is opposite the campsite entrance.
Closest ferry port: Plymouth approx 1 1/2 hour drive
