Home description
We are only a 5 minute drive to the town of Kyrenia which has great shops and what is considered to be the most beautiful Byzantine Harbour in Europe. It is surrounded by lovely little restaurants and is magical by night with all the tables having candles lit, very romantic indeed. The best beaches this side of the island are Lara, which is a 10 minute drive and has sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, or our personal favourite Turtle Beach is only a 15 minute drive. It has miles of sand and very few people. In July/ August the turtles come up to lay their eggs and there is a conservation programme here. Visitors may come and view the hatchings, wonderful sight. The villa is only a 2 minute walk to the nearest restaurant, Rafter's, which is one of the best on the island. The nearest supermarket is also a short distance away, a 10 minute walk will take you to the village of Ozankoy which has several good restaurants, a couple of mini-markets and a butchers. For keen golfer's there is the KorIneum Golf Club, about a 15 minute drive, it is very exclusive but does accept visitors. There is also a small waterpark nearby and a riding club. Bellapais Abbey is a 10 minute drive and has some lovely restaurants with wonderful views of Kyrenia. Villa Leni is in a very quiet position in a small street with similar houses. Because the currency of North Cyprus is the Turkish Lira (TL) Sterling will go a lot further than in the Euro zones.

The Kyrenia District
Kyrenia, or Girne as the locals call it is in the north of Cyprus. It has wonderful scenery, unspoilt beaches, very friendly people and a wide choice of restaurants. There are plenty of places to visit and lots to do. The Byzantine harbour in Kyrenia with it's carob houses converted to bars and restaurants is a must see,as is Kyrenia Castle which houses one of the oldest shipwrecks. There are lots of boat day trips from the harbour. St Hilarion Castle is a great day out, the view from the top is stunning and well worth the climb. Not far from us is Bellapais Abbey which can be seen from the road leading to the villa is thought to have been built in the 10th century. For a few TL you can walk around the ruins. In summer here there are classical concerts played here, accoustics are wonderful. The views from here are also superb and there are some lovely restaurants in the village..
Famagusta is worth a day out. From the Palm Beach Hotel there you can see into the ruins of Varosha, the no man's land since 1974 when the island was divided, Odd to think of all the houses, businesses and hotels left empty and slowly turning to ruins. It is patrolled by the UN forces and no-one is allowed to enter. Famagusta town is lovely and it's great to walk around the walled city, it is very much the Cyprus of years ago. Salamis,on the way to Famagusta is worth seeing. It is the remains of a Roman town still complete with ampitheatre and baths.Close to here is the church and tomb of St Barnabas. These are only a few of the historical sites the area has to offer. A trip to the Karpas or the 'Panhandle' is a must, it's probably better to stay overnight there since it is a long drive but well worth it, the scenery is beautiful and you may catch a glimpse of the wild donkeys who roam free there. We can recommend some cheap but nice hotels in the area. At the very tip is St Andreas monastery well worth a visit, as is Golden Beach which rivals any in the Caribbean Cyprus boasts over 300 days of sunshine. It has a short winter but even then you can sunbathe in sheltered areas. The Spring and Autumn are very pleasant and the Summer's HOT, but there are always nice breezes.
Ozankoy area
Ozankoy is a small village about 5 minutes drive east of Kyrenia. It is still very "Cypriot" and has lots of charm. In the centre of the village is the mosque and the call to prayer can be heard very clearly at the villa, though most Cypriot's are not terribly religous! There are numerous restaurants and cafes within walking distance, every type of food you could want, from the cheap and cheerful kebab, fish n'chips, curries, Chinese, pizza, to very upmarket restaurants. There is a Bowling Alley and a Gym within a 5 minute walk. On Sunday mornings there is a market in the car park of the Bowling Alley.
Golfers can visit the Korenium Golf Club about 10/15 minutes away. There is a very good riding club in the next village of Catalkoy which caters for novices and experienced riders. minutes up the road, or for around £5 each you can use the beach, pool and waterslides at the Acapulco Hotel or Malpas hotel's Cornaro beach a 10 minute drive away. There are some beautiful walks in the area and in Spring there are organised wild orchid trails. The small water park is a 5 minute drive.
Some of the hotels offer Spa facilities and massage.
How to get there
Flights to Ercan in North Cyprus with Cyprus Turkish Airlines, or Turkish Airlines. There are also Charter Airlines such as Pegasus. There is also the option to fly into Larnaca in the South with British Airways or most of the travel companies, such as Thomas Cook, Airtours etc. We can arrange a taxi to take our guests to the villa from both airports. At the time of writing, it is approx £30 from Ercan, 35 minutes from Ozankoy and £50 from Larnaca which is around 80 minutes to the villa, each way. There is no visa/entry charge to cross to North Cyprus. Car hire can be arranged through our house management company with Isak Car Hire, who are reliable and trustworthy. A generous welcome pack is included, consisting of the groceries needed to start your holiday off comfortably. There is a guest information book and North Cyprus tourist books to give you some ideas of where to go. The villa is cleaned weekly and linen & bedding changed. Guestbook for Villa Leni
The house is lovely, we had a great time and would recommend it to anyone The Wylie family.
The villa is amazing, it far exceeded our expectations, it had all we needed and more. the photographs don't do it justice. We look forward to returning. The Bashir family.
The villa was marvellous, our second stay here, this time for our wedding at Jasmine Court and our honeymoon. We had a wonderful time and even had our Henna party at the villa. Thanks for everything. Paresh & Sureya.
We enjoyed Villa Leni so much when we stayed in Sept 07 that we are returning for the 5TH time. The house is very comfortable especially the cushioned armchairs on the front patio, lovely for lunch and evening drinks. It is much better equipped than any other villas we have stayed in over the past 14 years we have been coming to TRNC. Highly recommended. Ian & Sylvie.
We loved the house so much, all that anyone would require is provided, it really is a 'home from home' we didn't want to leave and look forward to returning. S&S
Villa Leni is truly 5* and we look forward to coming back next year. Thanks for a great holiday. J, D & A.
