For you historians Kyrenia is steeped history. Explore ancient ruins, crusader castles, and kyrenia's picturesque harbour. All within a 20 minute drive.
Many centres offer guided walks but i will you a free book called Walks in North Cyprus (Self guided). Lists some 30 walks for walkers, botanists, historians, artists, photographers and bird watchers!
The mild weather is ideal for walking and sightseeing or you may simply want to relax by the pool with a good book.
Just in case the kids get bored there lots of stunning sandy beaches to chose from with water-sports. The Mediterranean Sea is calm and inviting!

The Kyrenia region
Kyrenia is situated on the north coast famous for its Venetian picturesque harbour, castle and shipwreck museum. Dine at one the restaurants over looking harbour.
Kyrenia is also known for its natural scenic beauty, breathtaking views and stunning sandy beaches that stretch for miles. The mild weather hot dry summers, mild winters with spring and autumn being pleasantly warm makes it one of the best destinations in the Mediterranean.
The north Cypriot people are friendly, welcoming, especially with children.
For you walkers Kyrenia has many mountain trails and pine forests to explore. In spring the island covered by flowers, autumn is good too. The island is home to 1900 plant species 17 native to the island. Over 350 bird species can be watched throughout the year. Best place to spot orchids is at Alevkaya forest station.
Kyrenia mountain range offers the best trekking .The Kyrenia trail is some 230 km long. It runs along the north coast from the Karpas in the east through Kyrenia mountain range going west. The Kyrenia mountain trail association promotes walking, maintains trails and produces maps. There's also a network of trails called North Cyprus trails they can advise you with.

If its history that interests you the island has been conquered many times and has long and varied history. Explore Kyrenia's crusader castles of Bufavento, St Hilarion and Kantara further East. St Hilarion is said to be the inspiration for the Walt Disney film Sleeping Beauty.
Also well worth a visit Is the divided capital called Nicosia. Wander through old city and step back in time, the charming character still remains today. You should finish the Nicosia trail by morning, giving you a chance to sample the local cuisine and soak up the atmosphere.
For you beach lovers there are many hidden bays and coves to discover. Some sandy coves are child friendly being shallow and sheltered. Try Escape and Acapulco beaches.
To the East of Kyrenia, is the Karpas peninsular known for its beautiful scenery ,medieval churches and wild donkeys. To truly discover this region you may wish to stay the night.
Traditionally an evening meal will start with a variety of appetizers dishes called Mezes followed with a main course of meat or seafood. Turkish style restaurants will often include music performances.
A good restaurant is Peanuts along the coast over looking the Mediterranean Sea.

Ozankoy is a Cypriot village, situated just three miles east of Kyrenia, at the foothills of the Kyrenia mountain range, it is one of the most beautiful and peaceful villages in Kyrenia. In Spring and Summer the village comes alive with blossoms.
From Ozankoy you can see the romantic village of Bellapais and its 13Century Abbey perched on the hillside. It is said to have inspired the author Laurence Durrell and the book Bitter Lemons.
You will find lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance to choose from, owners recommend Rafters courtyard restaurant a 5 minute walk from the villa
Other activities include horse riding, several stables offer lessons in the Girne region and golf ( Korenium 18 hole championship course ).
There are several nearby supermarkets for provisions.
