The Kyrenia region

Northern Cyprus is located at the crossroads of three continents. It has been conquered many times and has a long varied history, some six thousand years. There are many historical treasures that still remain today, just waiting to be explored!

Northern Cyprus is also known for its breathtaking scenery, idyllic villages and stunning sandy beaches. The mild climate makes it one of the best all year round destinations in the Mediterranean.

Kyrenia is situated on the north coast famous for its picturesque Venetian harbour, Byzantine castle and shipwreck museum. Dine at one of the restaurants over looking the harbour.

For you walkers Kyrenia has many mountain trails and pine forests to explore. In spring the island is covered by flowers, autumn is good too.The island is home to 1900 plant species with 19 species that only grow in the North. There's also 20 wild species of orchids. Over 350 bird species can also be watched throughout the year. Best place to spot orchids is at Alevkaya forest station.

Kyrenia mountain range offers the best trekking .The Kyrenia trail is some 230 km long. The Kyrenia mountain trail association promotes walking, maintains trails and produces maps. You can buy downloadable GPS files for your mobile phone.

Best time to visit is spring and autumn when the climate is mild suitable for walking. Summer mornings can be pleasant.

If its history that interests you the kyrenia is steeped in history. Explore Kyrenia's crusader castles of St Hilarion and Kantara further east. St Hilarion is said to be the inspiration for the castle used in the Walt Disney film Snow White and Seven Dwarfs.

Bellapais 13 C abbey and attractive village is a five minute journey by car. Lots of good restaurants to choose from! Leave your car at the bottom of village and walk up to the abbey through the village.

Free walking book called walks in North Cyprus best trails combine scenic beauty, rural villages, history, flowers, bird watching.

A holiday to Kyrenia should include a trip to the divided Capital Nicosia. Wander through old city and step back in time, the charming character still remains today. You should finish the Nicosia trail by morning, giving you a chance to sample the local cuisine and soak up the atmosphere.

To the east of Kyrenia, is the Karpas peninsular known for its beautiful scenery, medieval churches and wild donkeys. To truly discover this region you may wish to stay the night.

For you beach lovers there are many hidden bays and coves to discover. Some sandy coves are child friendly being shallow and sheltered. Try Escape and Acapulco beaches.

In Kyrenia there's a choice of restaurants.Traditionally an evening meal will start with a variety of appetizers dishes called Mezes followed with a main course of meat or seafood. Turkish style restaurants will often include music performances.

A good restaurant is Peanuts along the coast over looking the Mediterranean Sea.

The currency in the North is Turkish Lira but Euro and Sterling is accepted. Do not change too much money there's a better exchange rate when you are out there.

Other activities include

Para gliding in the Kyrenia mountains.

Turtle watching at Algadi beach supervised by society ( marine turtle conservation project ) May to August.

Identifying rare orchids is popular. ( Feb to May )

Must see festivals!

Bellapais Music Festival ( May / June ) Iskele International folk dance festival ( June- July ) international Girne Olive festival ( October )

Enjoy your stay!

Ozankoy is a Cypriot village, situated just three miles east of Kyrenia, at the foothills of the Kyrenia mountain range, it is one of the most beautiful and peaceful villages in Kyrenia. In spring and summer the village comes alive with blossoms.

From Ozankoy you can see the romantic village of Bellapais and its 13Century Abbey perched on the hillside. It is said to have inspired the author Laurence Durrell to write the book Bitter Lemons.

You will find lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance to choose from, owners recommend Rafters courtyard restaurant a 5 minute walk from the villa

Other activities include horse riding, several stables offer lessons in the Girne region and golf ( Korenium 18 hole championship course ).

There are several nearby supermarkets for provisions.( 10 minute walk )

"some of information is incorrect"

Had to fight of the branches to go to the front door as it looked like no gardener had been there.Had to call the agent 3 days after we had arrived as a person claiming to be the gardener wanted to go… More

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry you didn't enjoy your holiday. I will be addressing some issues.

I apologise for the gardeners interruption and if not enough beds were made.

However I discussed wifi before holiday.

I do leave some quilts in a black bag. Yes I locked a wardrobe for personal use. Other guests have not complained about this.
Villa agent did arrive too early but left welcome letter, welcome pack and contact details to arrange another courtesy call.

I gave guest car rental company contact information but there was still a problem at airport. This being the reason there was
no rental car waiting at villa.

After holiday I tried to ask guest what happen at airport because car company was waiting they didn't respond .

Best wishes

"Great place to stay for a relaxing holiday in North Cyprus"

If you want a great villa for a relaxing holiday then look no further. We stayed at the villa for three weeks in July/August and it was everything we had hoped it would be. A clean modern villa, equip… More

"Perfect for recharging the batteries!"

Just returned from an extremely relaxing week long stay at this very spacious, comfortable and private villa. The owners organised our car hire and transfers from Larnaca Airport, which was extremely efficient and comfortable. Pictures do not do the villa or location justice. We visited Kyrenia Harbour and St Hilarian Castle, both stunning. Also spent a day at nearby Shaynar Beach Club, but always found ourselves opting to chill by the lovely villa pool. A very relaxing, chilled and hassle free holiday, lovely climate and Turkish Cypriots charming and hospitable.
